Would you like to try something different? Looking for a new challenge?
We have an exciting new opportunity for an experienced Specialist Pharmacy Technician to join our ward based team working in Cancer Services.
We are a progressive department in a Trust that encourages and supports quality improvement to deliver the best services we can for our patients. We are actively using skill mix and role development to enhance job content and quality across all levels of the department.
Our team of technical and non-technical staff has a high profile within the Trust and we have an opportunity for you to join our friendly and supportive Clinical Pharmacy team at Scunthorpe General Hospital.
This post has an indicative banding and will be subject to a full Job Evaluation process.
Main duties of the job
The role is varied and combines the core pharmacy technician skills required within the pharmacy department with expertise in counselling patients on their Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) and supportive medication. This will include, highlighting potential adverse effects, their subsequent management, and signposting for signs of help/support if needed. The successful candidate will work and support the chemotherapy day unit, providing on hand support to our Scunthorpe site and when appropriate, liaising with the clinical teams at our Grimsby site.
The post holder will be expected to work closely with the clinical and aseptic pharmacy teams, clinicians, nursing staff supporting the Chemotherapy Day Unit (CDU) and the Lloyds outpatients pharmacy and will perform various aspects of a clinical pharmacy service where appropriate this may include, but will not be limited to, stock management, supply of supportive medications, medicines reconciliation and counselling of patients and their medications. There will be times the post holder may be required to lead on complex activities that require allocation of duties, such as stock shortages of oral SACT may need communication with procurement for alternative sources or with consultants for change of plans with treatment this will require communicating back to the patients.
