An exciting opportunity has arisen within the busy and friendly Corporate Governance team, based at Royal Derby Hospital, for a Corporate Governance Officer.

The post holder will be responsible for the implementation and management of robust Corporate Governance processes to ensure that the Trust complies with its legal, constitutional and regulatory requirements.

The post holder will also lead in supporting aspects of Trust-wide duties within the Corporate Governance portfolio including policy management, insurance, monitoring compliance and co-ordinating a variety of specified projects.

The role will actively contribute to the continuous improvement of corporate governance within the Trust.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and flexible team player with highly developed interpersonal communication skills and educated to degree level, or with the equivalent level of experience of working at a similar level in a specialist area.

Comprehensive knowledge of corporate governance and/or regulation and compliance is preferred.

Main duties of the job

  • Responsible for the Trust-wide policy management process by maintaining oversight of all Trust policies and ensuring the policy library (Koha) is up to date.
  • To manage and undertake appropriate external analysis, using statutory frameworks, best practise and national guidance, and co-ordinate with Executives to ensure compliance with all legislation/regulatory documentation.
  • Development and maintenance of the policy master schedule.
  • Responsible for reviewing the Trust-wide Trust Policy for the Development and Management of Procedural Documents.
  • Assist in the development of mechanisms to ensure the Trust has arrangements in place for the effective initiation, consultation, approval and continuous review of corporate policies and procedures.
  • Schedule and routinely meet with Executive leads, and nominated deputies, to ensure that policies are reviewed, updated and consulted upon prior to their deadlines.
  • Ensure all Trust-wide policies follow the correct process to be approved and reporting the policy position on a monthly basis to the Trust Delivery Group.
  • Provide detailed / in depth advice with regard to specific queries related to the policy process to Policy Leads and Authors, Divisions and Executive Directors as appropriate.

Person Specification



  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience working at a similar level in a specialist area
  • Experience in and understanding of the health and social care environment
  • Experience in and understanding of NHS regulations and legislation
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workload
  • Experience in taking formal minutes at executive level
