An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Surgery and Critical Care (Surgery) team at Sheffield Children's NHS Foundation Trust. Responsible to the Senior Operational Manager for the Theatre department, you'll liaise at all levels with clerical and clinical staff, including consultants.

Main duties of the job

You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, specifically with other members of the Care Group Management Team, Theatre Staff and Medical Staff, supporting the Senior Operational Manager and Clinical Manager for Theatres, in the planning and delivery of clinical services and ensure the achievement of key objectives.

This will include all aspects of Operational management, Information analysis, Performance management and delivery, Service planning, Clinical governance & risk management support. You will also be the first point of contact for the theatre administrative team and troubleshoot any IT issues within the department.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training


  • Basic Degree or proven graduate level ability or equivalent
  • Training Evidence of on-going professional development


  • Management qualification



  • Experience of service management
  • Proven track record of delivering service improvement
  • Experience of successful working with external agencies
  • Proven track record of service planning
  • Experience of line managing a team.


  • Experience of clinical governance
  • Experience of successful operational management in a healthcare setting

Knowledge and Skills


  • Understanding of the NHS and of the management of health care services
  • Good understanding of Clinical Governance and related matters
  • Possess interpersonal, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience of making presentations, negotiation and influencing skills
  • Ability to use information to effectively support the improvement of performance
  • Commitment to maintaining and developing further the Trust's role as a Centre for Excellence for Teaching, Education and Research


  • Understanding of the health needs of children and of the health and social care issues influencing care provision
