We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated nurse with an interest in clinical research to join our clinical trials team based at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, as a Clinical Research Nurse. This exciting position will provide the ideal opportunity to combine Oncology/Haematology specialist knowledge with clinical research skills.

The post holder will be working on the Haematology and Oncology portfolio of studies.

The post-holder will provide nursing care to patients who participate in research, supporting them in their decision-making to participate in trials, strict protocol adherence, data collection, and organisation of relevant tests and procedures. The post holder will also be responsible for promoting research within Trust departments and supporting colleagues and local investigators to deliver high quality research activity to support patient care. The role requires flexibility and the ability to work as a team member and under their own direction.

Main duties of the job

Work collaboratively with the other members of the research team to support and manage the progress of allocated clinical trials and research undertaken in the Trust, maintaining an accurate account of project status and records as required.

Work collaboratively across professional and organisational boundaries within and outside the NHS and develop professional relationships with other relevant organisations including non-commercial bodies and pharmaceutical sponsors that promote the delivery of quality clinical research within UHSussex.

Job responsibilities

The post holder is responsible for the day to day management of an allocated portfolio of studies. This includes successful recruitment and retention of patients, strict protocol adherence, data collection, and organisation of relevant tests and procedures.

The post holder will also be responsible for promoting research within Trust departments and supporting colleagues and local investigators to deliver high quality research activity to support patient care.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • NMC Registered nurse
  • Educated to degree level or working towards or equivalent level of relevant experience


Desirable

  • GCP certification
  • Research methodology course


Knowledge

Essential

  • Evidence of understanding research process
  • Knowledge and understanding of role and responsibility of research nurse


Desirable

  • Experience working on clinical trials in NHS setting
  • Experience as research nurse in haematology/oncology


Clinical

Essential

  • Post registration experience in a clinical environment


Desirable

  • Prior experience/ understanding of clinical research trials in an oncology clinical environment


Skills

Essential

  • Able to evidence communication skills (verbal and non-verbal) across a variety of situations, departments and colleagues
  • Evidence of haematology or oncology experience


Desirable

  • Evidence of being articulate and knowledgeable in current health care issues.
