The Christchurch & Southbourne Community Mental Health Team as a whole provides comprehensive community mental health services to patients aged 18-65 for 12 GP practices in Christchurch & Southbourne and the team case load is approximately 800 - 900 patients.

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Specialty Grade doctor. This is an opportunity for a full time (10PA) doctor working in General Adult Psychiatry based at Christchurch & Southbourne CMHT at Fairmile House. This team provides comprehensive community-based services to patients registered with general practitioners within the Christchurch & Southbourne area.
The successful applicant will be responsible as part of the clinical team for providing assessment, treatment and care for patients referred to the Team and will work under the supervision of the Consultant psychiatrist and will be expected to obtain and maintain Section 12 (2) and participate on the middle grade on-call rota in West. Job description Job responsibilities
- The Christchurch & Southbourne Community Mental Health Team as a whole provides comprehensive community mental health services to patients aged 18-65 for 12 GP practices in Christchurch & Southbourne and the team case load is approximately 800 900 patients.
- The CMHT and the Trust as a whole is seeking to move to practice that is far more driven by agreed pathways of care for the majority of patients.
- The team base for the CMHT is at Fairmile House where the outpatient facilities are based. In line with the Trusts desire to improve patient access to services, it is expected that patients will also be seen in community settings when appropriate e.g. primary care clinics or home visits.
-Close working relationships with primary care are essential for the provision of high quality psychiatric services. The post-holder and team will work closely with primary care colleagues so that patients have easy access to specialist mental healthcare when needed.
-The postholder will be expected to work with the community team to cover emergency work and to keep waiting lists within the Trust agreed limits. This has been within four weeks forroutine referrals since April 2011.
-The CMHT has a duty system which involves the non-medical staff. It is a requirement that the post holder will be a Section 12 Approved, or willing to work towards S12 approval in the first months in post. The section 12 work for the CMHT will be shared between the consultant and the post holder.
-The ability to work closely and co-operatively with members of a multi-disciplinary team is an essential and integral part of the post. Attendance at a weekly team meeting is required. The presentation of assessments, management plans and case reviews at the weekly team meeting is an important part of the duties of this post.- The post holder will be expected to produce high quality written documentation supporting their work, both in the ongoing clinical record (RiO) and letters of correspondence in keeping with Trust Policy.
- The post holder will have dedicated office space at Fairmile House. The postholder will have access to secretarial support, and the lead administrator will oversee all work and ensure that it is completed in a timely manner. The lead administrator will also oversee any clinic and diaryarrangements, alongside support to ensure the smooth running of clinical services to include out-patient clinics.
-The post holder will participate in a senior non-resident on-call rota with Specialty Registrars and Associate Specialists. On call payments are 2% plus 1 PA.
-The speciality doctor in Christchurch & Southbourne CMHT will have clinical supervision from the Consultant Psychiatrist based at Fairmile House.
Person Specification Qualifications/Training Essential
- General medical Qualification e.g. MBBS, or equivalent and hold a Licence to Practise.
- Section 12 approval or ability to obtain approval before starting post
Previous Experience Essential
- Least four years' full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty
