Consultant in Forensic Psychiatry, Morrison Ward (Medium Secure)
This is an opportunity to join the well regarded Forensic Service in ELFT, working with a large group of supportive consultants.
Alongside an established team, you'll be responsible for a 17 bedded medium secure ward which cares for men transferred from High Security. You'll be supported by a junior doctor. The clinical work, which involves liaison with High Secure services, can be complex and sensitive but is also typically rewarding and stimulating.
We would welcome applications from those with an interest in research and/or education. ELFT has strong links with QMUL providing many opportunities for teaching and research.
The post is available from 03 August 2022 for six months. It is expected that this post will become available substantively within the locum period.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will hold consultant responsibility for the patients on Morrison Ward. Will provide clinical leadership to Morrison Ward. To act as the clinical link person with the High Secure Estate. 4.To carry out forensic psychiatric assessment of cases referred for admission to Morrison Ward.

Person Specification QUALIFICATIONS Essential
- MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
- MRCPsych or equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
- Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
- Additional clinical qualifications
- Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
- Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months of this
- Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within three months of appointment
- Approved under S12 OR able to achieve within three months of appointment
- In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice
- Holds and will use valid UK driving licence OR provides evidence of proposed alternative.
- Knowledge and understanding of forensic psychiatry psychiatry.
- Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
- Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
- Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others
- Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA
- Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service
- Interest in and experience of Quality Improvement Work
- Participated in continuous professional development
- Able to use and appraise clinical evidence.
- Has actively participated in clinical audit.
- Able to plan and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training relevant to this post
- Reflected on purpose of CPD undertaken
- Experienced in clinical research and / or service evaluation.
