This is an exiting opportunity to work for the community paediatric dietetic team within Coventry offering the chance to work with a variety of patient groups and work closely with other community healthcare professionals and acute paediatric dietetic colleagues.

This role is available as a Band 6 to 7 progression depending on experience.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide specialist dietetic advice on the dietary / nutritional management for children on enteral feeding in the community, working closely with hospital paediatrics and community childrens nursing team.
  • To manage a highly specialised caseload of paediatric patients in the community.
  • Act as a specialist adviser and educator to other health care professionals and other Dietitians in respect of children and home enteral feeding

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • To communicate complex nutrition and dietetic information in an understandable form to staff, clients and carers, requiring negotiation, persuasion, motivation and counselling skills including situations where there are barriers to understanding
  • To use appropriate communication skills and resources to ensure that suitably accessible information is available to individuals on their dietary treatment/care plans.
  • To determine customer requirements within paediatrics in the community, developing and promoting the use of referral guidelines as appropriate.
  • To liaise with various agencies as appropriate (e.g.caterers, nurses, carers), to enable provision of appropriate nutrition for individuals who may be on supplementary enteral
  • To act as clinical lead and a source of expertise on nutrition and dietetic topics for paediatric community nutrition support, advising and supporting other members of the multidisciplinary team and other health / care workers as appropriate, helping those who are in a position to provide nutritional advice and influence eating habits within the specialty, aiming to give accurate consistent nutritional messages to clients.
  • To liaise closely with community children's nursing team, referrers, GPs and other health professionals, and participate in multidisciplinary meetings, ward rounds or case reviews as appropriate to support safe, high quality, patient-centred care.
  • To work flexibly to provide a dietetic service which meets the needs of community nutrition support paediatrics clients.
