An exciting opportunity has arisen for a seconded full time Senior Sister/ Senior Charge Nurse position, on Robert Hadfield 4 at the Northern General Hospital.

We are looking for highly motivated, experienced Sister/Charge Nurse to assist the Matron to manage both these acute Gastroenterology and Hepatology wards. The successful candidates will be required to work to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals PROUD standards and behaviours.

You will need to demonstrate excellent leadership and communication skills.

You will be committed to providing high standards of safe, effective and compassionate care to this patient group in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.

You will need to be flexible, enthusiastic and passionate about Gastroenterology and Hepatology and committed to improving the service.

Main duties of the job

Postholder will provide leadership and management for Gastroenterology/Hepatology in patient provision.

Provide 24 hours continuing responsibility on the ward.

Ensure that the highest possible quality care is delivered within Gastroenterology and Hepatology and that it meets the expectations of individual patients.

Provide high quality services to patients on the ward and to patients in the wider speciality.

GRaDE Care Group is comprised of 3 clinical directorates:
  • Diabetes and Endocrinology
  • Gastroenterology and Hepatology
  • Respiratory Medicine

All three directorates operate on the Northern and Central campus' although the acute admitting base for all of the specialties is at the Northern General Hospital. The Care Group has 11 acute base wards at the Northern General Hospital and one acute and one elective base ward at the Central Campus. Outpatient services operate on both campus' and are supported by the Patient Booking Hub at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital.

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of a maximum of twelve months due to maternity leave of the substantive post holder. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts and statutory maternity provisions.

Qualifications

Essential

  • RGN Level one
  • NMC registered
  • To have completed the national PEAP programme for practice supervisors or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification for those with ENB998.
  • Continuous professional development
  • First degree or evidence of working towards one (demonstrating graduate attributes)


Experience

Essential

  • Extensive post registration experience In an acute NHS setting.
  • Relevant experience at junior sister/ charge nurse level.
  • Ability to lead, motivate and develop a professional team
  • Specialist training relevant to working in an acute surgical setting.


Desirable

  • Previous experience deputising for Senior Sister / Charge Nurse

  • Ability to communicate effectively including active listening, writing, and verbally, with individuals on a one-to-one basis, with groups, and the Multidisciplinary Team
