To provide Third Line IT support to all corporate computer systems and associated Infrastructure, including VMware, Netapp, Microsoft and Citrix technologies

Main duties of the job

  • Undertake, in conjunction with the Senior Technical Services Manager, the development, planning, implementation and support of standard server systems
  • Ensure that corporate computer systems are supported effectively, including routine housekeeping, e.g. Monitoring server estate using SCOM and Backup schedules.
  • Undertake acceptance testing, installation, commissioning, software loading and configuration. Troubleshooting ICT equipment, such as Servers and Network components, ensuring such ICT equipment conforms to the appropriate safety standards.
  • As part of the server team, you will ensure support requests are handled within agreed SLA timeframes and followed ITIL framework best practices.
  • Utilising resources effectively and efficiently to achieve a quality service for the organisation.
  • Support and supervise more junior ICT members in the execution of their job role.
  • Be conversant with the principles, configuration and use of the Trust's standard computer operating systems, such as Microsoft Windows Server technologies

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Work with relevant staff as required in the procurement, development and implementation of information systems
  • Undertake advanced problem determination and resolution on ICT equipment and services, and liaise with ICT staff, in particular the Technical Leads, and other parties as necessary to rectify such faults
  • Use the LANDesk computer system to record, manage and monitor the progress of all jobs and incidents to their resolution, including invoking escalation procedures, where appropriate and keeping users and other system managers informed of progress.
  • Use the LANDesk computer system as the Trusts ICT asset management system, and to use the system for the production of management reports, as required
  • Assist in the evaluation of third party software.
  • Participate in the management of designated projects according to PRINCE 2 principles, ensuring project objectives are met in accordance with quality, budget and timescales. Documenting all project work to departmental standards.
  • Liaise with associated and related project teams, taking full account of user requirements and business objectives.
  • Participate in developing documentation for ICT policies, procedures and system configurations.
  • Liaise with outside support agencies on matters relating to the operation of ICT equipment and associated software.
  • Undertake the training of staff and students in the use of ICT equipment and application software, as required.
  • Give presentations of systems to users and other interested parties as required.
  • Keep abreast of current developments within the computer and related industries.
  • Liaise with other ICT staff, as required, to ensure the overall integrity and smooth running of the service.
  • Participate in providing out of hours support, as required.
  • Participate in appraisals and personal reviews and work to achieve agreed set objectives.
  • Participate in appropriate training and development activities
