An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated, enthusiastic, and experienced Band 5 physiotherapist to join our musculoskeletal outpatient team.

The successful candidate will join our musculoskeletal rotation within one of our UHS Musculoskeletal Outpatient sites in Brighton & Hove including Brighton General Hospital, and Hove Polyclinic, or The Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Health. Offering rehabilitation services to local populations rich in cultural diversity, we are committed to delivering a service that is relevant to the communities we serve and strive to promote opportunity for all. We have a strong flexible working ethic full, part time or fixed term will be considered, plus the opportunity to register on our physiotherapy bank. The post would include participation in the orthopaedic weekend rota - following completion of appropriate training.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will carry their own clinical caseload with support from the wider team. The post-holder will manage a mixed musculoskeletal caseload which may include orthopaedic patients, and patients with both acute and chronic MSK issues. This is currently expected to be managed in a hybrid format including face-to-face, video and telephone contacts.

This post also offers the opportunity to gain experience in:
  • Lower limb rehabilitation groups
  • Shoulder rehabilitation groups
  • Back reconditioning groups
  • Hydrotherapy

Furthermore, the post-holder will be expected to engage in non-clinical tasks including service development projects and audits.

The service is committed to professional development and post graduate education facilitated through an established appraisal, mentoring scheme and in-service training programme. We offer a supportive learning environment with the opportunity to work closely with advanced practitioners.

The post would include participation in the orthopaedic weekend rota - following completion of appropriate training.

We are able to consider flexible working, part-time or full-time hours dependant on the needs of each physiotherapy site.

Job responsibilities

Role Summary/ Main Duties and Responsibilities=
  • To work as an autonomous practitioner to assess and provide treatment of a caseload of patients, who may have complex and/or chronic presentation, and to form a diagnosis and develop treatment programmes, and to maintain records.
  • To have workload managed by senior staff and work under supervision of senior staff, with access to a senior member of staff or manager at all times
  • To assist senior staff in the supervision and teaching of physiotherapy assistants and undergraduate physiotherapy students, and be involved in the teaching of staff from other disciplines
  • To undertake evidence-based practice, and participate in departmental research, service development, and audit
  • To support service provision- including running of classes.
  • To adhere to Trust policies and the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy Code of Conduct, Health Care Professions Council Code of Conduct and be guided by national standards where they exist to develop departmental policies and best practice care.
  • To actively promote and develop equality and diversity practices and strategic management in this area in order to promote equity of access of care for patients and equity of access to job opportunities and development opportunities for staff.

Person Specification



  • Experience as a qualified Physiotherapist
  • Evidence of relevant post graduate courses/CPD and reflective practice with an up to date portfolio
  • Experience of working as part of a team/ multidisciplinary team
  • A range of clinical placements during Physiotherapy course


  • Experience as qualified Physiotherapist in within MSK specialty
  • Experience as qualified Physiotherapist in respiratory, Orthopaedic, neuro (inpatient or outpatient) rotations/ disciplines.
  • Involvement in carrying out a clinical audit/ service development
  • Experience of supporting students on placement with support



  • HCPC Registered


  • Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and/or relevant Clinical Interest Groups



  • BSC Hons Physiotherapy (or similar)
