• To ensure the systematic provision of a high quality specialist clinical psychology service for people struggling with eating disorders across the age range and in and across a variety of settings, including home, community and education contexts.

• To offer advice, consultation and supervision on this client group's psychological care to psychology colleagues, non-psychology colleagues and other non-professional carers.

• To work closely with and to support the Team Leader with the management of clinical issues within the local team.

• To work autonomously within professional guidelines and exercise responsibility for the systematic governance of psychological practice within the service. To propose and implement policy changes within the area served by the team/service.

• To utilise doctoral level research skills for audit, policy and service development and research and to supervise research carried out by trainee and assistant psychologists.

Main duties of the job

We are pleased to offer either a preceptorship/development post for a newly qualified Clinical Psychologist with interest in specialist eating disorder services, working initially at band 7 whilst developing the competencies required at 8a; or a qualified Psychologist wishing to progress to 8a. The post is based at Pendle House, Nelson which is the base for the East Lancashire Eating Disorder Team. The team is part of the All Age Eating Disorder Service which covers Lancashire and South Cumbria and has close links with our other locality teams based in the Bay (Lancaster and South Cumbria), Fylde Coast, Central Lancashire and West Lancs providing multi-disciplinary specialist care for people who have an eating disorder. You will be joining a dynamic multi-disciplinary team of professionals with a passion for working with people who have eating disorders including psychological therapists, systemic family therapist, specialist mental health nurses, specialist dietitian and medical professionals.

You will be joining the team at an exciting time of real development as the service works together to improve services for people who have an eating disorder. This would be an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to develop skills and knowledge in the area of eating disorders particularly where there is comorbidity and complexity. An interest in acquiring skills in relational and integrative approaches may be an advantage as the service develops its therapeutic pathways.

Person Specification Education/Qualifications Essential

• Post-graduate doctoral level training (or equivalent) in clinical psychology, including specific models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the BPS. Professional registration as Practitioner Psychologist with HCPC.

Knowledge & Skills Essential

• Doctoral level knowledge of clinical psychology including highly developed specialist knowledge of lifespan developmental psychology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, particularly the literature pertaining to two or more distinct psychological therapies for use with children, young people, adults and their families/carers. Skills in the use of highly complex methods of psychological assessment intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration. A high level of ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, highly technical, and clinically sensitive information to children and young people, adults, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS. Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups. Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis as practiced within the field of clinical psychology. Knowledge of child protection and other key legislation and its implications for both clinical practice and supervision regarding work with children, young people adults and their families/carers. Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS. Ability to plan and prioritise own clinical workload and research programmes. Advanced word processing skills. Experience Essential

• Assessed experience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist at a specialist level. Experience of working with complex mental health difficulties. Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care and treatment, both as a professionally qualified autonomous practitioner and also within the context of a multidisciplinary treatment plan. Experience of delivering teaching, training and/or offering professional and clinical supervision to other professionals working with children/ adults who have psychological difficulties.
