Working at Brighton General Hospital as the B7 Team Lead Neuro Outpatient Physiotherapist you will be assessing and treating a varied patient group .

The patient caseload is made up of: patients with new diagnosis and long-standing Neurological conditions including Parkinson's, MS, Stroke, MND and Huntingdon's Disease. Other complex conditions such as Functional Neurological Disorders & Mitochondrial Diseases are managed by the Neuro Outpatients Service.

About us

Brighton General Hospital Neuro Outpatient Physiotherapy Department is part of the University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust. We provide general acute and Outpatient services to the general populations in the City of Brighton and Hove and in Mid Sussex and more specialist and tertiary services for patients across Sussex and the south coast of England, including being one of the Major Trauma Units along the South East Coast.

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic experienced Neurological physiotherapist to join our well established service.

We are looking for a forward thinking clinician who has substantial post-graduate Neurological experience, at Band 6 level including Stroke, long term Neurological conditions and Neuro Rehabilitation.

Job responsibilities

The Band 7 is required to ensure the quality and safety of the physiotherapy service delivered. They are required to manage the day to day running of the service including support for complex patient presentations, triaging referral lists appropriately and operational management of staff including regular support and development of services/staff members.

The B7 is required to carry their own caseload of Neuro Outpatients including complex patients and organise in service training, Supervision and Appraisal of staff and students, be an clinical educator and be responsible for collecting monthly Outpatient activity data for the Head of Service.

The B7 provides linked in/collaborative working with the Community Teams, Neurological Consultants and Nurse Specialists in MS and Parkinsons, which ensures holistic approach to each patient that needs ongoing investigations or further MDT support. Without the B7 post, these connections would not be so easily maintained, possibly leading to a longer time as an active patient, reducing the ability to take on more patients in a timely manner.

Provide shared day to day operational management of the Neurological OutpatientsPhysiotherapy team based at Brighton General Hospital by undertaking a teamleader role in planning, co-ordinating, delivering and evaluating the NeurologicalOutpatients Physiotherapy Service on a day-to-day basis.To deputise for the Clinical Team Leader if required.Provide shared leadership to the physiotherapy team within a team based structureat Brighton General Hospital as a specialist within the field of Neurologicalphysiotherapy.To actively promote and develop equality and diversity practices and strategicmanagement in this area in order to promote equity of access of care for patientsand equity of access to job opportunities and development opportunities for staff.As an autonomous practitioner to carry out advanced assessment and treatment of aspecialist caseload of patients within Neurological Outpatients who may havecomplex and/or chronic presentation, and to determine clinical diagnoses andphysiotherapy treatment indicated, and to maintain records.To provide specialist advice to other professionals both within the Trust and outsideagencies e.g. GPs, Occupational Therapists, Orthotists.To be responsible for teaching, supervision and appraisal of Band 6 Physiotherapistand Band 4 Technical Instructor, and undergraduate students to ensure a highquality of clinical care within the speciality.To adhere to Trust policies and the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy Code ofConduct and be guided by National Standards where they exist to developdepartmental policies.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

  • BSc/MSc Physiotherapy
  • HCPC Registered
  • Experience of managing a Team/MDT
  • Experience of the rehab pathway from Secondary care to Primary
  • Evidence of caring nature and demonstrates empathy
  • Cares about staff and patients
  • Curious clinician/evidence of autonomous practice
  • Evidence of HR polices and managing staff on them competently
  • Evidence of Trust values and awareness of the needs of others
  • Completed all core B5 and 6 rotations
  • Evidenced Neuro rehab experience as a qualified Physio
  • Evidence of reflective practise


Desirable

  • Post graduate qualification at Level 7/MSc
  • Awareness of system Healthcare approach
  • Members of special interests groups
  • Completion of Leadership courses
  • Completion of Neuro specific courses e.g Bobath
