Complex Care Occupational Therapist Band 6 - £32,306 - £39,027 per annum Full Time - 37.5 hours per week Various Locations - Thurrock, Southend, Braintree and Chelmsford

New funding has created new Complex Care Occupational Therapy (Mental Health) posts in a variety of locations across Mid and South Essex. These posts would suit experienced Occupational Therapists wishing to extend their skills and experience. The posts are located within the locality mental health teams in Thurrock, Southend, Braintree and Chelmsford. You will work as a member of the multidisciplinary team, with close professional supervision and guidance from a senior Occupational Therapist.

The service delivers a range of individual and group interventions aimed towards assessing and treating a person's functional abilities, increasing awareness and knowledge of mental health conditions and how to manage them, helping to regain a level of autonomy and independence.

The post will suit a committed, motivated individual, interested in extending and developing their clinical skills working with those needing input from the mental health services. The post will support your development of Occupational Therapy mental health skills, training and development opportunities.

Main duties of the job

  • To assess service users referred to the service, frequently acting as the first point of contact.
  • To utilise specialist assessments when presented with complex cases.
  • To make decisions on the level of treatment intervention required.
  • To undertake treatment planning, communicating and negotiating treatment plans and clinical reasoning for intervention with service users and their carers.
  • To communicate agreed treatment/care plans to multi-disciplinary team colleagues and partnership agencies and liaise with them at formal and informal meetings.
  • To provide specialist clinical advice and input for service users with complex problems and needs
  • To work in collaboration to optimise physical and social environments in order to facilitate functional performance and empower service users
  • To manage a caseload of complex presentations using evidence based, client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.
  • To apply a variety of treatment modalities to meet the needs of service users in individual or group format, utilising clinical reasoning processes to determine the most appropriate setting for intervention.
  • To liaise with in-patient and community based services and system partners to ensure smooth transfer of care through the services.

Education/Qualifications Essential
  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy
  • Registered with HCPC
  • Evidence of continuing professional and personal development.
Desirable
  • Evidence of post qualification study
Knowledge Essential
  • In-depth knowledge of working with people with mental health problems
  • In depth knowledge of wider policy and service issues relating to mental health
  • Knowledge of Safeguarding issues and child protection requirements/legislation and how these apply to the role
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation
Skills/Experience Essential
  • Experience as a qualified occupational therapist in mental health
  • Literate in IT/computer skills
  • Good oral communication skills based on fluency on the English language
  • Experience of providing professional support/supervision and motivation of staff
  • Ability to assess clinical situation quickly and use initiative
  • Experience in of working closely and developing relationships with senior medical nursing social and clinical staff
  • Ability to produce clear, coherent and accurate clinical reports including ability to complete required electronic data systems for a variety of audiences
