Recruitment to this post is part of a significant expansion in workforce within thePerinatal Mental Health Community Service (PMHCS) to meet the growing need for specialist perinatal mental health services in Kent and Medway. Increased access to psychological therapies with perinatal services has been identified as key target in the NHS Long Term plan.

The post-holder will contribute to the local service delivery of perinatal psychological therapies within PMHCS, with a focus on 'Trauma-Informed Care', which will bring exciting leadership and strategic opportunities working not only within KMPT but with partner agencies and providers.

The post-holder will contribute to the development of the NHS Long Term Ambitions such as 'Maternal Mental Health Clinics; Partner Assessments; Improving Access to Psychological Therapies' in collaboration with Maternity Services, addressing the needs of women who experience mental health difficulties during the perinatal period.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for professionals with a doctorate in clinical/counselling psychology who are experienced at working with people with complex presentations to provide qualified specialist psychological services to mothers, infants and families during the perinatal period. Delivering specialist psychological assessment, therapy, advice, supervision and consultation as required. The role will include the active involvement in the multi-disciplinary development of the specialist community perinatal mental health service. The post holder will work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the services policies and procedures.

The post-holder may work in various settings including primary/secondary care community venues such as GP practices, maternity units, Children's Centres, clients homes and inpatient settings.

The postholder is expected to work in an environment which may be highly emotive and mentally and physically demanding, particularly when working with parents/birthing people and babies. Clinical:

To provide specialist psychological assessments of clients referred to the team based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the clients

To formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a clients mental health problems, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the clients problems, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy, across the full range of care settings.

To be responsible for implementing a range of psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups, within and across teams employed individually and in synthesis, adjusting and refining psychological formulations drawing upon different explanatory models and maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential

• Professional accreditation/registration with HCPC or BABCP or UKCP or BACP, or eligible for Chartered membership of British Psychological Society as a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist .
• Postgraduate level training in psychological theory and practice.

Experience Essential
