We are looking for an Occupational Therapist with excellent communication skills who can demonstrate sound clinical assessment skills and has the ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team. We adopt a strong multi-disciplinary approach to ensure an effective response to meet the needs of our service users.

Anyone applying for the post does not necessarily require experience with wheelchairs as there will be training opportunities to develop your wheelchair assessment/prescription skills in this specialist field. You will also have full support from the team to develop skills and access to internal and external training opportunities.

To work as an Occupational Therapist within the current Wheelchair Service providing person centred and holistic assessments of clients mobility, postural and pressure care needs.

Main duties of the job

This is a countywide service for patients of all ages. We are looking for an Occupational Therapist who has a strong interest in developing their skills in a specialist area, working with service users eligible as medium/high/specialist need for the provision of wheeled mobility equipment (including pressure care cushions). The service is provided in a range of settings including clinics, home and educational environments

This post requires the post holder to be able to undertake all statutory and mandatory training and post holders must be able to undertake physical interventions. Fitness for physical intervention will be assessed by Occupational Health.

  • Diploma/degree in Occupational Therapy/Physiotherapy
  • Registered with HCPC
  • Post qualification experience of working as a registered Occupational Therapist/Physiotherapist covering rotational posts in areas such as outpatients, neurology, paediatrics, orthopaedics, elderly care, specialist wheelchair service or a related field.
  • Experience of supporting Full time Wheelchair users
Desirable
  • Experience of postural Care and prevention of pressure sore skills.
  • Evidence of a QI approach to service improvements and experience of using quality outcome measures
