A really exciting opportunity has arisen in the Hastings Mental Health Liaison Team. In order that we can provide an enhanced 24 hour service we are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, caring and creative Band 5 Community Mental Health Nurse to work as part of Mental Health Liaison Team and The Haven in Hastings. The role will involve working with people who have been referred to the Mental health liaison team via A&E, Secamb, Police, Street Triage, SMHL and our third sector partner Staying Well. It also involves working with people who are inpatients at the conquest hospital and are experiencing a mental health crisis and require our support.

Main duties of the job

You will need to be flexible and adaptable as modern mental health services are constantly changing in response to best practice. You will be joining a committed and dynamic team and will be fully supported and empowered to make a difference to creatively develop many new ways of working, towards building safe and responsive quality mental health services fit for the future.

You will be required to have strong communication and people skills and demonstrate a desire and ability to meet community service demands in an ever changing landscape. You will be working closely with existing current team members in identifying best use of resources in a needs led service utilizing patient focused evidenced interventions.

This post offers The Trust's Golden Hello for band 5 or 6 Nurses, or a Relocation package up to a maximum of £2000. (pro rata applies and subject to terms and conditions. Please see attached Protocol document)

Job description Job responsibilities

As a band 5 nurse you will be required to work alongside a band 6 nurse when completing assessments

The role also involves supporting patients in the Haven. They may be awaiting an assessment or they may have been assessed and are awaiting and inpatient bed or they may be using the Haven as part of a bespoke care plan in order to prevent a crisis.

The role also involves conducting reviews of patients who have already been assessed by a band 6 nurse and are in the conquest hospital or the Irvine unit. They may still be receiving treatment for their physical health whilst on the MHLT caseload.

Write and implement care plans in collaboration with the patient.

Accompany Dr's to assessments and complete the MHLT documentation which is overseen by a band 6 nurse.

Assist /shadow the shift coordinator receiving referrals to the team.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • Registered Nurse with current registration [mental health/LD/Adult], appropriate to the job role
Knowledge/Experience Essential
  • Knowledge of MHA (1983/2007).
  • Knowledge of Mental Capacity Act (2005), to include practical knowledge of FACE documentation, DOLS and Best Interest decisions
  • Child and Adult safe guarding procedures
  • Change management at organising and prioritising their workload.
  • Demonstrate ability to enhance care through evidence based knowledge
  • Demonstrate professional development relevant to the specific care group
