Main duties of the job

As an occupational therapy assistant you will work under the guidance of an occupational therapist to complete elements of the occupational therapy process. This may include interventions on a group or individual basis both within the hospital and in the wider community, grading and adapting activities to suit individual strengths and needs and aspects of report-writing.

Post: Occupational Therapy Assistant

Salary: £23,500 - £25,500 per annum (dependant on experience)

Base: Hansa ward, Cygnet Hospital Beckton.

Responsibilities: To work with the qualified occupational therapist on the ward to provide professional practice skills - care pathway assessments and therapy and education programme for the ward.

Responsible to: Ward occupational therapist, Head Occupational Therapist (Cygnet Hospital Beckton) and Director of Occupational Therapy

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Location: 23 Tunnan Leys, Beckton, E6 6ZB

Overview of services:
Hansa Ward at Cygnet Hospital Beckton is a 13 bed female locked learning disability ward. Hansa Ward strives to improve service users wellbeing, reduce risk and facilitate individual return to optimal functioning to fully engage in their recovery.

As an occupational therapy assistant you will work under the guidance of an occupational therapist to complete elements of the occupational therapy process. This may include interventions on a group or individual basis both within the hospital and in the wider community, grading and adapting activities to suit individual strengths and needs and aspects of report-writing.

The Occupational Therapy Team work within a multi-disciplinary team to drive forward programmes of recovery and rehabilitation. Our care pathways are evidence based with a focus on social inclusion and independent living skills. The multi-disciplinary team consists of medical, nursing, psychology, occupational therapy and social work.

The Successful Candidate should be/have:
  • An understanding of Occupational Therapy
  • Experience of teamwork health care preferable.
  • Excellent communication and organisation skills
  • Creativity and an ability to problem solve

Requirements

The successful candidate will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS and reference check and an offer of employment will be subject to successful clearance.
