We are currently seeking a Senior Registered Mental Health or Learning Disability Nurse who is passionate about providing high quality patient care, working in a dynamic and forward thinking environment on our Low Secure Inpatient Forensic service based on the Bodmin Hospital site .
We strive to provide a creative and holistic service for men who are experiencing severe and enduring mental health problems. These men require time and intensive support to aid their recovery within a provision of low security.These men may have a forensic history or been in contact with the criminal justice system. This is a unique opportunity in Cornwall to work with individuals within a locked longer stay environment with an ethos that focuses on rehabilitation and recovery.
Facilities on the ward include newly refurbished gym, training kitchen, activity space and healing garden, but we focus and promote a wide range of social inclusion based activities in the community as part of supporting these men safely out of hospital. As a named nurse we promote opportunities to work with your patients off the ward and take part in activities to aid risk assessment and engagement. We have a strong focus on relational security to ensure our environment is a safe and therapeutic area for everyone who works and lives there.
We value co-production and patient voice and promote nursing staff to drive these areas forward to evolve our service.
Main duties of the job
This exciting opportunity focuses on clinical leadership and developing and maintaining high quality care within a ward environment . The successful applicants will lead on PIPA , support and mentor learners and provide supervision to others as well as providing high levels of clinical care
Working alongside the ward management team the posts enable the successful applicants to act as experienced role models and leaders to junior colleagues but also to develop leadership and managerial skills and enhance their career in mental health nursing . We will support the successful applicant in accessing experiential learning and training .
These posts require a high degree of resilience , motivation and commitment and a willingness to help manage team to deliver high quality patient care through being an effective role model.
This post is ideally suited to an RMN/RLDN who has completed a preceptorship period and has had subsequent clinical experience post registration experience in a secure, acute or PICU mental health setting and wishes to take on a more senior role.
Bowman has a vision to generate more frontline leadership development opportunities and this pilot will enable the service to evidence the need for these posts on a permanent basis beyond the 6 month period. Available as an internal secondment with line manager endorsement or fixed term contract.

We are accredited by the Royal College of Psychiatry QNFMS and strive to drive forward quality improvement initiatives and service development opportunities. As a staff nurse we promote your active involvement and create opportunities to specialise within this field. We also work closely with the community forensic team

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
- Current professional registration - NMC
- Professional qualification - RMN
- Post graduate specialist training to degree level in relevant subject area or equivalent Experience
- Mentoring qualification or being willing to work towards this qualification
- Current experience of working in an inpatient environment post qualification
- expierence in managing a team
- An ability to act calmly in emergencies and to respond in a professional manner
- Ability to remain calm in stressful and challenging situations
- Budget management skills
