Do you have an interest in supporting service users with a forensic background? If so Leeds and York Partnership Foundation Trust is the main provider across Leeds and York for Low Secure Services and we'd love to hear from you. We're looking for a consultant level psychologist to join our diverse and thriving team based across two sites in York and Leeds.

So what is our Low Secure Service?

We provide a therapeutic inpatient environment for men and women with follow-up support into the community.

Why should I join the team?

We focus on delivering the highest quality care to complex individuals using a variety of interventions to assist in reducing risk and enabling the service users to manage their own risk behaviours, as well as recognising signs of relapse and what support will be required to ensure the safe delivery of care. We work together to plan for the most appropriate discharge pathway tailored to each individual's needs.

What does the role involve?

You will be responsible for leading and managing the team of psychological therapists based on our Leeds site. You will also be a senior clinical leader using your psychological knowledge to help shape the design and delivery of the service. You will represent the service and contribute towards the provider collaborative in developing the regional partnership. In addition, you will carry a clinical caseload and work collaboratively within the MDT to support our service users through their recovery pathway.

Main duties of the job

To help attract experienced Consultant Clinical/Forensic/Counselling Psychologist to this exciting opportunity we are pleased to be able to offer a golden hello Recruitment Bonus of £1000 for any experienced Consultant Clinical/Forensic/Counselling Psychologist joining our Forensic Service. This Recruitment Bonus is available to all externalexperienced Consultant Clinical/Forensic/Counselling Psychologist and will be paid £500 upon commencement with LYPFT, and then £500 per year following 12 months in post. Unfortunately, this bonus is not available to existing LYPFT staff.

Job description Job responsibilities

Our Expectations and Needs:
  • Working closely with the consultant role based on the York site, you will play a senior role in the overall governance and development of the forensic service, alongside working into the Regional Provider Collaborative.
  • As a consultant psychologist within LYPFT you will represent the group of psychological professions at relevant trustwide groups.
  • You will continue to develop links with key professional stakeholders regionally and nationally such as Doctoral Training course.
  • Clinically, you will continue to embed an innovative service across the West Yorkshire region strengthening the clinical pathway from inpatient to community care.
  • You will be well organised, have excellent communication skills and able to form good working relationships with the MDT and service users.
  • You will communicate in a highly skilled and sensitive manner, regarding all information relating to patient care including interfacing with the criminal justice system.
  • You will provide highly developed specialist psychological assessments of clients referred to the service, based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological (and neuropsychological) psychometric tests, risk assessments, observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the clients care
  • You will assist in the risk assessment/management and care planning for service users collaboratively with both internal and external stakeholders such as families and carers, probation, MoJ, social workers and MAPPA.
  • You will support the service in improving service delivery by taking a proactive approach to quality improvement and share good practise within the service.


Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • BPS accredited qualification in clinical/ counselling or forensic psychology ( doctorate or pre-1995 masters level for clinical)
  • HCPC registration as a clinical/ counselling or forensic psychologist.
Experience Essential
  • Experience within a forensic mental health setting
