Lancashire and South Cumbria Foundation Trust (LSCFT) are currently investing in the mental health services within the Bay Network. The Bay network (Lancaster and Morecambe and South Cumbria) has 4 inpatient units, these units are across the sites based in Kendal (Kentmere new 12 bed mixed sex ward opening July 2022) and Barrow in Furness (Ramsay; 15 bedded mixed sex Dementia ward and Dova an 18 bedded mixed sex acute ward) and Lancaster (The Orchard a 18 bedded mixed sex acute ward). Each unit provides assessment, intervention and treatment to patients with mental health difficulties.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an inspiring clinical leader in The Bay Inpatient services. The role of the Matron will require the successful individual to direct the clinical leadership of the wards as well as wider clinical roles to support the operational running of the inpatient facilities.

This post would cover our inpatient services at Dane Garth, these are Dova and Ramsay wards. As part of this role you will support and work along the Matron covering The Orchard and Kentmere Acute wards and provide additional cover and cross cover where clinical leadership and management is required.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate must be able demonstrate excellent leadership, clinical and interpersonal qualities, have a positive outlook and hold in-depth and up to date knowledge of the inpatient mental health environments.

The successful post holder will be required to work shifts covering 24 hours, seven days a week.

As well as regular clinical supervision, LSCFT offer developmental opportunities for experienced nurses including national clinical and leadership qualifications

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • Degree level qualification
  • Postgraduate Diploma qualification
  • Management qualification in relevant subject or equivalent
  • Clinical Professional Registration
Knowledge Essential
  • Good understanding of relevant legislation and guidance (e.g. Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, CPA, Safe Staffing) and its application in practice.
  • Detailed understanding of Clinical Risk Assessment and Management/Harm Minimisation and its application in practice
Experience Essential
  • Previous experience in a senior nursing post
  • Comprehensive knowledge of integrated and clinical governance, best value, DOH policy, NICE Guidance
  • Understanding of professional nursing issues
