An exciting opportunity has arisen for a skilled and dynamic nurse to become part of our developing CAMHS Crisis Liaison Service. The post holder will be responsible for urgent emergency assessments of children and young people presenting in crisis who live within Swansea Bay University Health Board locality. The ability to make balanced decisions and use positive risk taking approaches, whilst managing potentially high pressure situations is an essential part of this role.
The post involves interagency liaison with local A&E departments and Paediatric wards as well as with Child and Family Social Services, education and other agencies, as needed.
The CAMHS Crisis Liaison Team provides a 7 day service, working hours are x3 shifts per week 9am-9.30pm with an additional 6hrs shift once a month. The service is currently being developed and operational hours will be expanding to 24hrs, 7 days a week.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
Core functions of the CAMHS Crisis Liaison Team include:
A rapid response in offering specialist mental health assessments to children and young people who are in crisis, such as those who present with an imminent risk of harm to self or others; severe mood disorder; acute psychotic disorder; severe eating disorder.
Offering follow up appointments , when appropriate, to provide a brief therapeutic intervention.
Providing liaison, consultation and specialist training in the care of children and young people with mental health problems, to health colleagues and partner agencies.

Main responsibilities of the role will include:
Undertaking a robust assessment for children and young people presenting in crisis who require an urgent mental health assessment within 48 hours.
To rapidly assess young people with acute mental health problem and refer them to the most appropriate agency.
Provide Nurse led community based treatment currently between the hours of 9am to 9.30pm, 7 days a week with support from Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists , operational hours will be expanding to 24hrs.
Remain involved with the young people until the acute episode is resolved and ensure that they are linked into ongoing care if appropriate.
Reduce young peoples vulnerability to crisis and maximise their resilience.
Minimize impact of hospital admission on the child/ young person.
Work collaboratively with all CAMHS Community Teams and support all referrers regarding services and support available to young people.

- RN (MH) Current NMC registration, Relevant post registration qualifications
- Relevant degree. Evidence of CPD relevant to CAMHS.
- Excellent assessment skills
- Ability to manage anxiety effectively and work with young people with challenging behaviour
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Packages including Word, Publisher, Excel etc.
- Appropriate post registration experience.
- Experience of working within CAMHS or a therapeutic post eg eating disorders, challenging behaviour.
- Experience of group teaching.
- Experience of audit.
