Senior Practitioner Band 7, Tower Hamlets Autism Service (THAS), 0.6wte
We are looking to recruit a highly motivated and experienced Band 7 Senior Practitioner to work within THAS.
The purpose of the role is to participate in the established deputy management arrangements, enhance the teams multi-disciplinary skill base and undertake comprehensive ASD assessments. To provide individual team members with high quality supervision and contribute to the provision of a high quality service to adults aged 18 and over. The successful applicant needs to be either a qualified nurse/ speech and language therapist/ occupational therapist or social worker with at least four years post qualification experience in mental health of which two years should be at a Band 6.
The Tower Hamlets Autism Diagnostic and Intervention Service (ASD Service):
We will provide up to 12 sessions of autism specific interventions, for example post-diagnostic support, social skills and communication programs, and initial treatment for co-morbid mental disorders. Through a local third sector partner (The Tower Project) support and advice around employment will also be available.

Main duties of the job
The Tower Hamlets Autism Diagnostic and Intervention Service (THAS) is designed in accordance with NICE guidance.
We operate an open referral system, accepting referrals from any source when it is thought that an adult living in Tower Hamlets may have an autistic spectrum disorder. Diagnosis will be made clinically by the psychiatrist with input from the whole multidisciplinary team. In complex cases the use of diagnostic instruments such as the Adult Asperger Assessment (AAA), the Autism Diagnostic Interview - Revised (ADI-R) and the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS).
We will provide up to 12 sessions of autism specific interventions, for example post-diagnostic support, social skills and communication programs, and initial treatment for co-morbid mental disorders. Through a local third sector partner (The Tower Project) support and advice around employment will also be available.

- oRegistered Allied Health Professional or Nurse
- oTraining in ADOS-2 assessment tool
- oRelevant CPD
- oPost graduate qualification
- oExtensive experience in working in mental health and/or neurodevelopmental conditions.
- oExperience at Band 6 or above.
- oExperience of line managing junior staff
- oPrevious experience of working in Autism and/other neurodevelopmental disorders.
- oExperience of service development
- oExperience of facilitating groups
- oExperience of presenting
- oSpecific knowledge of neurodevelopmental disorders and their assessment and management
- oWorking knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Children Act, Mental Capacity Act and other relevant legislation
- oKnowledge of Child and Adult safeguarding issues and procedures.
- oRobust understanding of Clinical Governance and service improvement
- oKnowledge and application of appraisal and PDP systems
- oKnowledge of standard setting and audit implementation
- oAn awareness of different research methods
- oKnowledge of specific inner city issues which impact of care delivery
- oAn understanding of service delivery and provision that is culturally appropriate and responsive to the needs of service users
- oExperience of RIO or equivalent system
