An Exciting opportunity has arisen for this band 7 post to develop and lead, a small group of OT's within this exciting new multi-disciplinary team. This is a chance to be there at the beginning of a new service, to shape the Occupational Therapy provision in a Rehabilitation Team for people with complex mental health needs, with a strong team focus on MDT working, Recovery and person centred practice.

The post holder will be a key member of the Mental Health Services Management Team and will contribute to the overall management of those services. As an Occupational Therapy Team Lead, the post holder will be responsible to the Service Manager and/or AHP Lead for Adult Mental Health Division. The post holder will have ultimate responsibility to Director of Therapies.

The successful candidate will have designated responsibility for professional leadership and co-ordination of the Occupational Therapy Team as well as delivering complex occupational therapy assessments and interventions to a designated service user group. Main duties of the job

  • The post holder will work with other Trust Services and Agencies as required to ensure that the activity of their designated teams is co-ordinated in support of effective and efficient care pathways.
  • To ensure Team Activity supports efficient use of resources in line with allocated budget.
  • To ensure Team Activity is in line with required performance parameters and quality standards.
  • To support business planning within the Adult Mental Health Division in line with their sphere of expertise and responsibilities
  • The post holder will be an active clinical practitioner and will contribute directly to the clinical care activity of the Team
  • To undertake any other duties of a similar nature consistent with the responsibilities of this post in order to provide a quality Occupational Therapy service.

Job description Job responsibilities

  • Provide clinical leadership and co-ordinate the Occupational Therapy Team within their clinical day-to-day activity.
  • Ensure that the Occupational Therapy Team understands and works to required performance expectations and to monitor and support compliance as required.
  • To provide regular performance reports to the Service Manager and AHP Lead for Adult Mental Health Division identifying any exceptions and remedial plans as necessary.
  • Ensure the Occupational Therapy team contributes as required to the delivery of performance development and quality and safety directives.
  • Ensure that the team members receive appropriate professional and clinical supervision in line with the Trusts Supervision Policy.
  • Ensure that the activity of the Team supports efficient use of resources and is consistent with the Teams allocated budget, supporting the Service Manager in ensuring the overall service budget is managed effectively.
  • Develop and sustain relationships with others that create a sound base for communication, delivery of services and partnership working as required.
  • Work with the Service Manager and others to recruit and retain staff within the Team as required.

  • To have professional and legal responsibility and accountability for all aspect of own work including the management of patients on your caseload.
  • To ensure a high standard of clinical care for the patients under your management including the effective and efficient organisation of clinical interventions and support junior staff to do likewise.
  • To communicate effectively with patients and carers to maximise recovery potential.
  • To maintain accurate, comprehensive and up-to-date clinical or electronic documentation/data in line with Trust, professional and Health and Care Professions Council policy, standards and guidelines.
  • To abide by the Data Protection Act 1998 and the Freedom of Information Act 2000, Trust policies and procedures, professional directives and Health and Care Professions Council directives, when dealing with confidential patient, carer and staff information, and to support junior staff to do likewise.

    Person Specification Education and Qualifications Essential
    • oDiploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy oMasters level qualification relevant to post or relevant masters level clinical experience
    • oRelevant management course
    Experience Essential
    • Documented evidence of continuing practice development.
    • Significant experience as a band 6/7 occupational therapist in a relevant clinical field or fields, including extensive mental health experience.
    • Relevant management experience
    • Extensive experience of supervision, appraisal and development of occupational therapy staff and students
    • Active participation in audit, service evaluation and research in relevant
    • Experience of involvement in quality improvement or service developments.
    • Experience of leading and supporting change and innovation.
    Knowledge Essential
    • Excellent working knowledge of occupational therapy practice in adult mental health settings.
    • Thorough knowledge of statutory and legal frameworks within which mental health services operate
    • Thorough knowledge of the current management of mental health services
    • Effective working knowledge of health and social care policy, including the social care context of mental health services
