The Forensic Services are based on two sites and include a number of medium secure specialist services such as Learning Difficulties, Autism Specialist services, Women services, Forensic Community services, Personality Disorder Services and a large low secure recovery/rehabilitation unit.

Candidates are likely to be established senior nurse leaders with a strong experience of operating in NHS settings. You will have a track record of high level performance in a range of areas including demonstrable experience of leading and delivering innovative quality improvement initiatives; leading and implementing on the modernisation of nursing care and workforce planning.

As we begin to recover from the pandemic, the senior nurse leadership team are excited to turn towards, staff development opportunities, improving service user experience and the beginning of several improvement projects around improving staff wellbeing, reducing restrictive practice, and Trauma Informed Care

  • Main duties of the job

    • Overall Management responsibility for a set number of wards in Medium and Low secure services.
    • Set up clear monitoring / feedback / structure / system that enables us to both understand and challenge nursing practice across the service .
    • Nursing lead for Service developments in your area
    • Work closely with the Head of Nursing to effectively manage beds, admissions, discharges and transfer
    • Nurse Management lead for Infection Control

    • Provide advanced advice, support and expertise both within the service and to generic inpatient and locality / community teams.
    • Coordinate Nursing assessments of patients and expertise both within the trust and outside the trust.
    • Have management responsibility for the Forensic Specialist Outreach Workers and or the Forensic Specialist Prison In reach Worker.
    • Play active role in setting up and developing MDT meetings that define strategy for future.
    • Deputise for the Head of Nursing in their absence taking responsibility for the operational management of the service.
    • To lead on the local development of policy and practice that reflect the needs of service users, implementing evidence based practice contributing further to the knowledge base by evaluation of practice.

    • Registered Mental Health Nurse
    • Degree or equivalent experience
    • Senior management development programme qualification

    • Experience at a senior management level, including managing change and introducing new ways of working for mental health nurses
    • Experience of leading a nursing team and/or senior practice-based posts with significant leadership functions.
    • Experience of working within a forensic or secure service environment at senior level.
    • Experience of securing practice initiatives and service improvements and developments.
    • Senior clinical experience in the assessment and management personality-disordered offenders
    • Experience of managing a budget
    • Experience of multi-professional collaboration at a senior level
    • Partnership working with other statutory and voluntary agencies
    • Experience of setting, monitoring and evaluating standards of care
    • Experience of working in a multi-cultural environment and knowledge of methods to develop culturally sensitive practice.
    • Able to evidence ability to change practice, culture and outcomes of large nursing teams.
    • C&R trained
    • Experience of setting therapeutic boundaries with patients who exhibit extreme challenging and high risk behaviours that require advanced interventions to enable effective de-escalation.
    • Experience of working with patients who have severe personality disorders.
    • Experience of teaching staff advanced skills in setting boundaries, de-escalation and diffusion techniques.
    • Experience of working across all directorates, able to enthuse and inspire others using advanced communication, presentation skills.
    • Experience of presenting either board
    • Experience of presenting either at board level of to a wider external audience.
    • Experience of racial awareness/diversity training and the ability to operationalise this.
    • Experience and working knowledge of anti-bullying approaches and interventions
