This is a unique and exciting post offering the opportunity to work as part of a multidisciplinary team in a regional neurobehavioural brain injury unit, jointly run by psychiatry and rehabilitation medics.

The postholder will be based on Kite Ward- 10 inpatient beds providing rehabilitation to people with a brain injury and psychiatric cognitive or behavioural impairment. Situated at Western Community Hospital Southampton. It is a purpose built, modern, locked unit, providing rehabilitation with skilled MDT, submitting data to UK Rehabilitation Outcomes Collaborative. The staff team on Kite comprises nurses, therapists, admin staff and other doctors. The RC is a Consultant Psychiatrist, who provides 3PA input to Kite per week. There is a Clinical Nurse Specialist with behavioural management expertise, a full time OT, part time physio and a psychologist. We have visiting speech and language therapists and dieticians. The service is currently expanding, and we anticipate opportunities to gain broader experience in outpatient and liaison neuropsychiatric work.

Southampton is a geographically small city, densely populated and socially diverse. It is adjacent to a thriving port with many visiting cruise liners. Southampton has all the facilities one would expect in a major city with a university, theatre, modern shopping centre as well as excellent local schools and colleges. It is located only a 20minute drive from the New Forest National Park and a short boat trip away from the picturesque Isle of Wight. There are frequent direct trains to London Waterloo: 1 hr 15mins.

Applicants must have: Full registration with the GMC with 4 years post graduate experience.

At least two years’ experience in psychiatry

And ideally be Approved under section 12(2) of the MHA 1983
