We are currently looking for a 6 PA consultant child and adolescent psychiatrist to work within the Emotional Disorders Team within Harrow CAMHS (CNWL). This is an exciting opportunity for an energetic, innovative and dedicated child and adolescent psychiatrist with creative ideas for service development, keen to work with dynamic and passionate consultant colleagues and MDT clinicians and to collaborate with paediatricians, schools, childrens services and allied health professionals. You will be working alongside friendly and supportive consultant colleagues in a team with two higher trainees (St Mary's higher training scheme in child psychiatry), a core trainee and two specialty doctors. There are opportunities for teaching and training, for example as part of the higher training scheme and strong links with Imperial College London to develop research interests.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will be expected to provide psychiatric leadership to the EDT together with the other EDT consultant psychiatrist. They will provide clinical input to the EDT including conducting initial assessments, psychiatric assessments, risk assessments and delivering treatments including the initiation and monitoring of pharmacological treatments. The postholder will be expected to support the MDT with regard to comprehensive assessment, diagnosis and management planning, guided by the CAMHS care pathways and clinical model. They will also provide psychiatric consultation to the EDT MDT and the wider CAMHS team when indicated. The post holder will be expected to support the MDT in working to their job plans with regard to current expectations of 16 clinical contacts per week (which includes one new assessment and 15 other clinical contacts) for staff with no supervisory or management responsibilities. The postholder will be expected to liaise with NHS England, Commissioners and Tier 4 services when referral to Tier 4 is indicated and to liaise with Tier 4 services and contribute to CRAFT and CPA meetings.

About us

Central and North West London (CNWL) specialises in caring for people with a wide range of mental and physical health needs and is one of the largest mental health trusts in England. Each CAMHS service has its own local management structure: Harrow CAMHS has a Lead Psychiatrist, Therapies lead and team manager who work closely with the outer boroughs service manager. Each sub-team has a psychiatry and therapy lead and they, together with the team and service manager form the local senior management team which meets monthly. The postholder will be part of the SMT. The Harrow CAMHS team is well established and staffed by a large multi-disciplinary team of clinicians. We aim to provide an accessible, flexible and responsive local service for patients and professionals working with children in the area using a range of therapeutic interventions including behaviour, systemic, CBT, IPT-A, DBT, psycho-dynamic and group therapies as well as psychopharmacological approaches. Harrow CAMHS is a Tier 3 service, accepting referrals from GPs, paediatrics, schools and Children's Services. The service has active service user groups for young people and parents. The team has a monthly CPD session and local care quality meeting, a doctors meeting twice a month which includes peer group case discussions, a weekly local consultants meeting and a monthly senior management meeting which the postholder will be part of.

Other clinical and management duties Contribution to the daytime duty consultant rota (approximately 4 days in 6 weeks) at Harrow CAMHS offering consultation to the duty professional and junior doctor on duty as needed with regard to triage of referrals, urgent duty calls, telephone enquiries and urgent assessments. The duty consultant is expected to attend the duty huddle at the start of the day (9.15am) and at 4pm on their duty day. Harrow CAMHS has its own urgent care team (Brent/Harrow Urgent Care Team), with their own consultant, and they assess emergency presentations at Northwick Park Hospital. Providing consultant support to the Urgent Care Team (when the UCT consultant is on leave/unavailable) To maintain accurate and up to date clinical records. To contribute to the collection and monitoring of Clinical Outcome data across the service to assist delivery of KPIs. The postholder will be part of the Harrow CAMHS senior management team (SMT) and will attend the monthly SMT meetings Clinical supervision of junior medical staff and other members of the MDT. The postholder will act as clinical supervisor for the core trainee. The post holder will participate in fortnightly case-based discussions with other consultants and junior medical colleagues. Participation in the development of clinical protocols as required. To offer teaching to colleagues at the acute hospital, CAMHS colleagues, trainees and medical students Maintaining up to date Continuing Professional Development (CPD). Contribution to the CAMHS OOH consultant rota.

Out of Hours On-callAll Child and Adolescent Consultants across the Trust participate in the out of hours on-call rota, which is currently 1:15 - with OOH nurses/CT1-3 psychiatry trainees being first on call and ST4-6 psychiatrists second on call. The Consultant on Call rota includes all general hospital sites within CNWL with emergency departments and paediatric services. These are St Marys, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, Hillingdon Hospital and Northwick Park Hospital. Cover is also provided to the two inpatient units: Collingham Gardens and Lavender Walk. The banding is Band A with 3% uplift in salary

Person Specification Education and Qualifications Essential
  • Primary Medical Degree
  • Full GMC Registration
  • Section 12 MHA Approved
  • Approved Clinician status or willing to apply for approval.
  • GMC Licence to Practice

  • MRCPsych (or equivalent)
Training Desirable
  • Inclusion on the Specialist Register for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (or CCT expected within 6 months of interview date)
  • An additional post graduate qualification of relevance to working with children and Adolescents

  • Competence in psycho- pharmacology and also non- medication therapeutic approaches.
  • Experience and training in the assessment and management of cases with complex presentations with high risk, emotional disorders and neurodevelopmental disorders
