Post: 1.0WTE Band 7*/8A Clinical Psychologist (Permanent) in Community Stroke/Neurorehabilitation *Band 7 Preceptorship available e.g. for trainees about to complete their training course

This is an excellent opportunity to join established community stroke/neurorehab services in Central/South Manchester. You will be instrumental in helping to establish neuropsychology services in 2 localities.

You will be well supported by a Consultant Neuropsychologist, and you will have the opportunity to lead around supporting and supervising an assistant psychologist. The post will really benefit someone looking for a diverse range of experience in neuropsychology assessment, formulation and rehabilitation.

We anticipate that the post will suit those keen to develop their clinical skills/portfolios, particularly those considering/working towards QiCN status. We will support the postholder through the PGDip to gain the training required to work towards the QiCN.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will have experience of and enthusiasm for working within neuropsychological services and will provide a service of specialist assessment and intervention, working with a team of multidisciplinary staff. There are excellent opportunities within the service to become involved with service developments and with audit and research projects. The service has close links with Lancaster and Liverpool Doctorate Training Programmes and is the Host Trust for the Manchester Doctorate Programme, and you may gain valuable experience in supervising other staff as a result.

Job description Job responsibilities

To contribute to the service delivery and target objectives/priorities of Psychological Services Division (Manchester) within the area of specialism, in agreement with relevant managers, to ensure the most efficient and effective utilization and contribution of psychological knowledge and practice.

To undertake highly specialist neuropsychological assessments of clients referred to the service based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the clients care.

To formulate and implement plans in conjunction with other professionals, for the formal psychological treatment and/or rehabilitation of a clients neuropsychological problems, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the clients problems and family/carer needs and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy, across a range of care settings.

To be responsible for implementing a range of neuropsychological and rehabilitative interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups, within the clinical service, adjusting and refining psychological formulations drawing upon different explanatory models and maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses.

To evaluate and make decisions about assessment and rehabilitation options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family or group.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential

• oProfessional qualification in Clinical Psychology at doctoral level (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS
• oRegistration as a Clinical Psychologist with the HCPC.

Desirable

• oPost qualification training in Neuropsychology

Experience Essential

• oExperience of working as a Clinical Psychologist within Neuropsychological services post qualification
• oExperience of providing supervision and training
• oPrevious experience of neuropsychological assessment and delivering structured psychological interventions to clients with complex neuropsychological presentations
• oExperience of working with clients with challenging behaviours arising from neuropsychological conditions

Desirable

• oExperience of working within stroke/neurorehabilitation neuropsychology services in either community or inpatient settings
• oExperience of working within a multidisciplinary team within NHS Services

Knowledge Essential

• oDoctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis as practiced within the field of clinical psychology.
• oKnowledge of the theory and practice of at least two specialised psychological therapies

Desirable

• oKnowledge of legislation in relation to clients of the service eg Mental Capacity Act and DOLS
• oFormal training in supervision of other psychologists

Skills Essential

• oSkills in the use of complex methods of neuropsychological assessment, intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration.
• oSkills in providing clinical consultation to other professionals.
• oAbility to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team and to liaise effectively with other professionals.

• oAbility to teach and train others, using a variety of complex multi-media materials suitable for presentations within public, professional and academic settings.
