An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced dietitian with excellent clinical and team-working skills to join the dietetic team at the Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells (MTW) NHS Trust.

If successful, you will work with the Manager for Nutrition and Dietetics to provide a safe, effective, and evidence-based dietetic service to adults with diabetes.

You will lead the dietetic team and work as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team assessing, advising, managing patients with complex nutritional and social needs. Your team-working, leadership, supervision and communication skills will be invaluable, as well as your ability to work autonomously to manage your caseload.

Main duties of the job

This role will provide you with excellent professional and personal development opportunities. You will be required to lead on the development and implementation of patient-centred nutritional management pathways and other service improvement initiatives. You will also have the opportunity to be involved with dietetic student placements, multidisciplinary team nutrition training, audit and the development of the wider MTW dietetic service.

Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust is a large acute hospital Trust in the county of Kent.

Once your pre-employment checks have been completed you will be contacted by Recruitment to arrange your start date which will be in line with one of our Corporate Inductions.

Please note that appointment to this post will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure & Barring Service Check atEnhanced Level. (Enhanced level now includes regulated checks against vulnerable adults and children)

Following your Corporate Induction you will be expected to attend the Trusts 2-week Induction Programme for RNs, NAs, RMs, ODPs and Paramedics. The programme is full-time (please emailmtw-tr.professionalstandards@nhs.netif this is problematic)and will involve travel to both Trust sites. The programme includes supernumerary shifts in the clinical area, classroom-based sessions and e-learning.

Qualifications

Essential

  • BSc.(Hons) or Postgraduate Diploma in Dietetics or equivalent qualification
  • Current state registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC


Desirable

  • Relevant post graduate training in clinical dietetics
  • Member of a BDA Specialist Group and / or BAPEN
  • Member of the British Dietetic Association (BDA) or other body conferring professional insurance


Skills

Essential

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to function well in committee and team environments and drive dietetic agenda
  • Good analytical and reflective skills
  • Organisational skills, prioritising and managing own workload to achieve deadlines
  • Competent and accurate IT skills with ability to use Microsoft word, PowerPoint, data collection tools, and willingness to develop these skills
  • Competent to use specialist equipment for anthropometric assessment


Desirable

  • Counselling skills or post graduate training in behaviour change techniques
  • Experience of using dietary analysis packages
  • Supervisory and / or mentorship skills


Experience

Essential

  • Experience post qualification, including working with adults with diabetes in inpatient and outpatient settings
  • Experience facilitating group education
  • Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience of delivering training sessions to other healthcare professionals
  • Experience of working in insulin pump clinics
  • Experience of handling diabetes data systems - CGM, flash glucose monitoring, Glooko.


Desirable

  • Dafne Trained
  • Experience of training undergraduate dietetic students
  • Experience of conducting clinical audit


Knowledge

Essential

  • Up to date knowledge of clinical dietetics in the field of diabetes and its practical application
  • Up to date knowledge of all aspects of diabetes management - oral and injectable hypoglycaemic therapies, insulin pumps, glucose monitoring devices
  • Up to date knowledge of managing people with diabetes with late complications affecting nutritional requirements and management e.g. gastroparesis, renal failure.
  • Good knowledge of national policies and procedures relating to diabetes and dietetics
  • Good knowledge of the principles of clinical governance


Desirable

  • CPD evidence of complex case management
  • Experience of other related areas of chronic disease management - obesity and bariatric services, gastroenterology, mental health
  • Evidence of ability to assess and lead a service
