Applied Psychologists are a respected and valued resource within the Nottinghamshire Adult Mental Health Community Services. We are delighted to offer one part time 30hrs 8A Clinical Psychology Post's within Newark & Sherwood Local Mental Health Teams (LMHT).

The LMHT's work with people who experience a range of mental health difficulties, including complex trauma, psychosis, depression, anxiety, dissociation, self-harm and life-threatening behaviours. The LMHT's have good links to primary care, as well as our crisis teams, inpatient services as well as the Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) teams.

We welcome applications from newly qualified / soon-to-be qualified clinical psychologists who can start on a Band 7 preceptorship to work to an 8a over the first year of employment.
Main duties of the job

We see the role of the LMHT psychologist as:

To enhance the psychological mindedness of the Multi-Disciplinary Team and Adult Mental Health Service as well as improve the psychological competence and confidence of non-psychologists within the MDT to deliver psychological interventions.

Job responsibilities

As such, together with individual work with service users, we encourage and support non-direct work with staff (supervision, training) together with initiatives which enhance the psychological mindedness of the wider directorate (e.g. articles, wider training). We believe the role is ideally suited to someone who wants to work within an MDT setting and apply and develop their skills and interests across a broad and varied range of activities.

As well as being part of a LMHT the successful candidates will be part of a vibrant and friendly group of psychologists who work across Nottinghamshire LMHTs. Our commitment to you is that we will provide you with opportunities to develop professionally within committed and supportive adult mental health services and play an important role in supporting increasing access to psychological therapies within community settings.

Qualifications / Training
Essential
  • Doctorate level qualification in Clinical Psychology
  • Registered as a Clinical Psychologist with the HCPC

Desirable
  • Post-qualification training including specialist training specific therapeutic approaches or clinical specialities

Experience
Essential
  • Post-qualification experience
  • Of working psychologically with adults who have a range of mental health difficulties.
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary setting
  • Post qualification experience of liaison and consultation with other professionals
  • Supervising other clinicians
  • Evaluating/auditing professional work

Desirable
  • Teaching mental health professionals about psychological issues.
  • Experience of leading on clinically relevant research
  • Publication of research
  • Involvement in the planning and development of psychological services
  • Supervising trainee or other Psychologists

Knowledge
Essential
  • Extensive and up-to-date knowledge of relevant theory and research through reading and CPD.
  • Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health.
  • Knowledge of a range of therapeutic approaches
  • Critical awareness of current themes in Adult Mental Health policy and research
  • Risk assessment and risk management
  • Ability to undertake specialist assessments, develop formulations and provide psychological interventions.
  • Doctoral level knowledge of research, design and methodology.

Desirable
  • Extended training in additional interventions/assessments/ models

Skills
Essential
  • Formulation of sources of psychological distress in adults with mental health difficulties; therapeutic interventions; presentation skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and relationship building skills.
  • Communication of complex and sometimes distressing information to a wide range of audiences
  • Ability to work positively and constructively in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Able to engage constructively with people who are highly anxious, depressed or hostile.
  • Planning Skills to organise workload and contribute to service co-ordination and delivery of care to the individual and team.
  • Teaching Skills
  • Skills for assessment involving complex facts where expert opinion may differ.
  • Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
  • Ability to reflect on practice and on ethics
  • IT skills sufficient for the purposes of word processing, data entry and statistical analysis.
  • Use of psychometric test equipment

Desirable
  • The ability to represent Clinical Psychology across broader services and lead on clinical initiatives

Essential
