An excellent opportunity has become available to be part of our Community Mental Health Team. This is an ideal opportunity for a qualified professional to expand in their skills, expertise, multi-agency liaisons and autonomous practice.

We are looking for skilled and motivated mental health professionals, of a social work background, to join us in meeting the needs of those we serve in the vibrant and diverse locality of Luton.

We are a community mental health service looking for resilient and proactive team players.

We seek staff committed to a user focused approach, who is able to work creatively and effectively, in this busy and demanding role, to promote patient recovery.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will hold a caseload of individuals who experience severe and enduring mental ill health; many of whom will have complex needs. The focus of the role is to work responsively with an individuals strengths, in order to maximise life choices and independence.

As part of the team staff members are also required to participate in Duty, Assessment and Clinics as appropriate to your role. Working days are Monday to Friday, 9am 5pm.

Job description Job responsibilities

To be responsible for an identified community caseload, ensuring high standard of professionalconduct to comply with best practice and professional accountabilities. To promote a service user focussed service. Participate in audits and survey relevant to the team. To participate in development of new policies and procedures as required. Ensure that clients receive a culturally competent service. To co-ordinate the day-to-day activity and manage the workload of the Team. To ensure the legal requirements of the Mental Health Act (1983) and subsequent amendmentsare adhered to. To ensure the legal requirements of the Care Act 2014 other legislation To establish and maintain good relationships with service users, carers and voluntary sectorcolleagues.

Person Specification Educational/ Qualification Essential
  • Qualified Social Worker registered by the HCPC
  • Qualified Mental Health Social Work/Award/Appointed AMHP
  • Educated to Degree Level
Experience Essential
  • Significant post-qualification experience, which must be within mental health services
  • Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary environment/community experience.
  • Experience of working within an NHS/Local Authority environment and an understanding of the issues/ policies/ practice within these environments.
  • Previous appointment as an AMHP
Knowledge/Skills Essential
  • Thorough understanding and working knowledge of mental disorder and the treatment options.
  • A thorough working knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983 and subsequent amendments
  • Working knowledge of the NHS & Community Care Act, The Care Act, Mental Capacity Act and other social care & mental health legislation, policy & guidance
  • Ability to assess manage complex and high risk situations effectively and to the benefit of service users and carers
