The Trust is seeking a consultant psychiatrist to join the Trafford Community Learning Disability Team and the East Cheshire Community Learning Disability team. The vacancy has arisen as the result of the existing consultant moving on to a new role at Trafford and consultant role changes within East Cheshire Community Learning Disability team. The Trust regards this as an opportune moment to develop new roles to fulfil the ambition of the Transforming care agenda to develop more seamless roles and functioning of the team.

Cheshire and Wirral partnership trust (CWP) provides services within 3 main localities. These include Wirral, West Cheshire and Macclesfield.

Main duties of the job

The post holder would provide Consultant Psychiatrist input to Trafford Community Learning Disability team.

The team cover a population of approximately 226,600. The team is a full-fledged Multi-Disciplinary Team with a range of professionals working from the Waterside building, Sale. The post holder would be expected to work from the base at Waterside building, Sale.

The post holder would provide Consultant Psychiatrist input to East Cheshire community Learning Disability team along with another consultant colleague (0.5 WTE). There is also support from a full time core trainee (CT2 or 3) and a WTE Speciality Doctor (MSc international medical graduate).

The team cover a population of approximately 380,000. The team is a full-fledged Multi-Disciplinary Team with a range of professionals working from two bases. One is Rosemount in Macclesfield and the other in Stalbridge Road Clinic in Crewe.

All new clinical support staff will be required to have completed or working towards the Care Certificate (CWP In-house 2 day training to be completed within 6 months of start date).

Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment.You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. A small annual fee of £13 per year applies.

New entrants to the NHS will commence on the minimum of the scale stated above.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • MbChB, MBBS or equivalent
  • Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent
  • A CCT in Psychiatry of Intellectual Disability or the candidate is within 6 months of completing their CCT
  • Registered with the Royal College of Psychiatrists for CPD or willing to apply for such
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months.
  • Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
  • Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment
Desirable
  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
  • Additional Clinical or post-graduate qualification
  • In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice
CLINICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE Essential
  • Excellent knowledge in specialty
  • Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
  • Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
  • Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others
  • Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA
  • Good communication skills and ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team
Desirable
  • Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service
