An exciting opportunity has arisen to work in The Buckinghamshire adult community eating disorder service, which is based at The Whiteleaf Centre, in Aylesbury. This 0.8 FTE consultant psychiatry post covering the county of Buckinghamshire. The adult eating disorder team currently receives an average of 200-250 referrals per year and offers a range of interventions in line with NICE guidelines.

The specialist adult eating disorder service in Buckinghamshire provides a stepped care, integrated multidisciplinary evidence-based treatment approach. There is a strong Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT-E) tradition, which was developed by Professor Christopher Fairburn in the Department of Psychiatry. We also offer other evidence-based treatments for eating disorders (e.g. MANTRA, SSCM).

Eating disorder services across the Trust work closely together, particularly the two community teams in Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire and the inpatient and day service in Oxford.

Dr Agnes Ayton is the inpatient consultant for Oxfordshire and is the current Chair of the Faculty of Eating Disorder.

The service offers excellent opportunities for supervision, service development, service evaluation and research, teaching, and training. We have good supervision and operational structures and an excellent track record of CPD. There are good links with Oxford University, with opportunities for teaching, research and offering placements to trainees. The service is also committed to evidence-based and evidence generating practice and you will have the opportunity to be part of several service evaluation/improvement projects.
