Just when Mental Health couldn’t be more important, Southern Health is proud to be one of the largest providers of mental health and specialist mental health services in the UK.

Antelope House is our acute mental health inpatient and psychiatric intensive care unit. Where we offer high quality, recovery focused care to adult with a range of mental health needs. We have 4 wards:
  • Saxon ward, our Adult male acute mental health inpatient ward, accommodates 18 beds (+ 1 emergency bed) with a functional mental illness – such as depression, a personality disorder or schizophrenia. The focus is on supporting Southampton men during the most acute period of their recovery working in partnership with the patient and their family.
  • Hamtun ward, our 10 bedded all male Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). This unit is for those requiring intensive support where their needs cannot be safely met on the acute ward. The male PICU is a Trust resource for all male patients requiring this level of care within the Southern Health footprint. The ethos is short stay intensive support with supported step down to the local area acute ward.
  • Trinity ward, our female adult acute mental health inpatient ward, accommodates 16 beds with a functional mental illness – such as depression, a personality disorder or schizophrenia. The focus is on recovery and supporting female patients from the Southampton area requiring acute inpatient mental health care.
  • Abbey ward, Due to open 2022, Abbey will be the trusts first all-female Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). Abbey will accommodate 10 beds and will provide intensive support to ladies in the Southern Health footprint requiring intensive support in an inpatient setting.

There is plenty of excitement happening at Antelope House..

As a member of the team, you will support the delivery of responsive, evidence based recovery focused care to the service users in acute mental health crisis. We think working within mental health has to be one of the most rewarding careers to be in. If you are currently a band 6 RMN or a band 5 looking for the next step up and you would like to work where you can make a real difference, there’s no better place to be than Antelope House.

To be in with a chance of working at Antelope House you will need to be a registered Mental Health Nurse with the NMC. To attract the best talent we offer a generous relocation package as well as a Golden Hello of £2,500 (This offer is only available to external candidates and does not apply to current HIOW NHS staff)

As a registered professional you will automatically become a member of our Academy of Clinical Excellence (ACE) which has a specific focus on the professional development and career progression of our nurses and Allied Health Professionals. As part of ACE’s commitment to you, our development pathway for band 6’s focuses on enhancing your competence and confidence as a senior clinician and leader. As such, you will have access to masters level academic study with our partner universities as well as access to a variety of internal and external leadership programmes, workshops and support tools. The Academy encourages all our registrants to engage with service improvement, research and facilitating learning and a range of opportunities to support these core professional activities is available from ACE. To help you progress your journey with us, you will have access to a ‘Career Navigation’ conversation which will help you explore your career aspirations and make decisions about your career trajectory.
