Pharmacy and Medicines Optimisation Service – The Redwoods Centre, Shrewsbury
Specialist Clinical Pharmacist - Mental Health In-patient and Community Services

Band 7 (£40,057 - £45,839 pa)

Permanent contract

37.5 hours per week (1 WTE). Emergency Duty Commitment and ‘out of hours’ on a rotational basis.

Due to promotion, an exciting opportunity has arisen to join our friendly team and work as a Specialist Clinical Pharmacist in Mental Health based at the Redwoods Centre in Shrewsbury. This is an award-winning, modern facility providing in-patient care for people requiring support for mental health illness and houses a medical library, training facilities, and restaurant as well as a new dispensary.

Applications are invited from candidates with a genuine interest in mental health who possess transferable skills in optimising patients’ medicines prescribed for both their physical and mental health. There is opportunity to extend working in inpatient areas across to community teams to provide an integrated service and to support medication reviews depending on the candidate’s level of experience.

The Redwoods Centre pharmacy serves seven wards (115 beds) which includes a low secure forensics unit as well as providing support to local community mental health and sexual health services and country-wide substance misuse and alcohol services.

MPFT puts the patient at the heart of our services and a holistic focus is very much in evidence at Redwoods Centre with patients benefiting from a breadth of services that includes ready access to psychologists, physiotherapists, OTs, social workers and non-medical prescribers.

MPFT embraces Quality Improvement initiatives and invests heavily in staff training in this respect with implementation of Rapid Process Improvement projects through Lean technology. In addition the pharmacy department places high value on staff development with an emphasis on mentoring, training and education opportunities.

MPFT uses an electronic medical records system and roll-out of electronic prescribing and medicines administration (ePMA) is anticipated in Spring 2022.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and flexible specialist pharmacist with strong interpersonal, communication, negotiation and influencing skills and a real desire to listen to patients in order to attain shared decision making. As this is a specialist clinical post in mental health, you will already possess or will study for a post-graduate qualification in Psychiatric Therapeutics.

To maintain our established high-profile clinical pharmacy service, you will actively contribute to Rapid Review and Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings. These take place in a dynamic clinical environment that can be both rewarding and demanding and you will be supported with ongoing relevant training and supervision.

The post-holder is required to contribute to the delivery of local pharmacy-led training and induction around medicines use in addition to supporting medicines-related clinical audit and the Clinical Trials pharmacist in the day to day running of a small number of Clinical Trials. Together, these contributions represent a great opportunity to demonstrate good organisational skills, leadership potential and the ability to harness a problem-solving approach that involves team working.

This post is based at the Redwoods Centre but there is expectation that the post holder would have flexibility to travel locally to support community based aspects of the role where applicable or occasionally to other sites across the Trust as part of flexible working arrangements.

If you are self-motivated, able to effectively organise and prioritise your workload and to operate both independently and as a team player, we look forward to hearing from you.

All applicants who have a disability and meet the minimum criteria for the job will be interviewed.
