An exciting development opportunity has arisen for a practitioner to join the Speech and Language Therapy service within the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board Learning Disability Directorate; the post is based within the services Intensive Community Support Team (ICS), providing clinical assessment and intervention for individuals admitted to Ty Lafant, Assessment and Treatment Unit.

Main duties of the job

The Learning Disability Directorate provides holistic, multidisciplinary community and inpatient support to adults with learning disability living in Gwent; each area of the service offers the opportunity to embed evidenced based Speech and Language Therapy practises in multidisciplinary models of care and support to ensure individual's needs are met most effectively.

ICS provides specialist assessment and intervention to individuals living in the community who engage in behaviours that could be described as challenging. Ty Lafant is an inpatient service that delivers an evidence based, multi-disciplinary admission pathway to individuals with a high complexity of needs.

Candidates will be innovative and enthusiastic, holding a particular interest in implementing evidence based practice and delivering effective services to adults with a learning disability and their support systems.

They will have some experience and knowledge of working within and supporting a multi-disciplinary context and working with partnership services, including Local Authorities. Contribution to the development of the Learning Disability Speech and Language Therapy service is supported and opportunities to participate in working groups to develop wider service provision can be agreed.
