Essex Partnership University Trust has an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join its specialist stroke and neurological rehabilitation team.

It is essential that you possess a current driving licence and have access to a car for work purposes. Good IT skills are required as electronic patient records are used.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be responsible for providing high quality assessments and interventions to patients who have complex needs. Effective team working is essential to ensure an integrated approach to patient care and the successful candidate will join an MDT consisting of Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Physiotherapists, Psychologist and therapy assistants.

The role will involve providing both neurological rehabilitation in Beech Ward at St Margaret's Hospital and in the West Essex Community area within the Stroke Early Supported Discharge Team. We are looking for someone with considerable neurological and community experience who is keen to continue expanding and developing their skills. The ideal candidate will have postgraduate training within neurology, the ability to effectively manage a complex caseload of patients, excellent time management skills and the ability to work under their own initiative.

This position will provide excellent opportunities to develop critical experience and leadership skills along with working within an extremely supportive team. Job description Job responsibilities

To be a Specialist Occupational Therapist with expertise in neurology, responsible for providing a high standard of assessment, treatment and evaluation to patients, both in a Rehabilitation Ward setting and in the community as part of the Stroke Early Supported Discharge Team.

To work as an autonomous professional according to the College of Occupational Therapy Code of Ethics and Conduct and the Health and Care Professions Council Regulations.

To contribute to the overall service development of the team and actively participate in Continuing Professional Development. Provide leadership through supervision, mentoring, education and training.

To work as part of the integrated multi-disciplinary team to plan, deliver and evaluate all aspects of the patient treatment process, including rehabilitation, discharge and referral to appropriate community based health and social care agencies.

Person Specification Qualifications and Registration Essential
  • Must have HCPC registration
  • Must have OT degree
  • Post graduate experience in stroke and neuro
Desirable
  • Be a member of a specialist OT group
  • Band 6 or above post graduate experience in stroke and neuro
Other Essential
  • Must have full UK licence and access to a car
  • Must demonstrate experience/knowledge of computer skills
  • Demonstration of excellent written English

  • Demonstration of supervision of junior staff
