A rare opportunity has arisen on the Mother and Baby inpatient unit in Birmingham for a specialist perinatal mental health nurse development role.

Following the 5 year forward plan, the perinatal service has seen rapid growth resulting in a higher demand for specialised mental health nurses and various opportunities for ongoing career pathways.

The band 5 staff nurse development role will give the successful candidate 12 months experience working within the mother and baby inpatient unit and access to specialised perinatal mental health training which will assist for ongoing career development to the band 6 roles within the service.

No experience in perinatal mental health required, though an interest in the speciality is a must.

This role will be available as a secondment or fixed term contract.

Following the secondment/ fixed term contract the successful candidate will be required to apply for any further roles within the service through the usual NHS recruitment process.

Main duties of the job

The Perinatal Mental Health Service is a specialist service providing inpatient, and community treatment for mothers' who experience mental health problems following the birth of their baby. Chamomile Suite is a purpose built 10 bedded inpatient unit offering conjoint admission for mothers and their babies.

We are currently looking to recruit a highly motivated mental health nurse for our inpatient service. Applicants should be passionate about delivering a high level of individualised inpatient care, have excellent leadership skills and should have a genuine interest in perinatal mental health.

Care is provided over a 24 hour period and all team members work rotational shift patterns including days, nights and weekend.
