The LYPFT Learning Disability service provides multi professional, specialist health services for people, over the age of 18, with a learning disability across community settings, respite and the intensive support team. The service works in partnership with key stakeholders including service users and carers, adult social care, third sector and private providers to deliver health care for people with highly complex health needs that may include; behaviours that challenge services, mental health and/or dual diagnosis and complex multiple impairment / physical health needs.
Occupational Therapy is a key component in all our services, one which we have developed, and we are seeking a Clinical Lead to continue developing and leading the delivery of Learning Disability (LD) Occupational Therapy. The ideal candidate will be confident in providing Occupational Therapy interventions to an identified caseload of people with highly complex needs. We are looking for an individual who is passionate about ensuring that the Occupational therapists are providing the highest quality of care. The role is reliant on effective team working skills both clinically and within a leadership capacity and the successful candidate will be expected to work with Clinical Team Managers, clinical leads of the AHP professions, and the AHP Professional Lead, to lead and develop the LD AHP community in line with LD national and local agendas.

We are looking for an individual with good planning, organisational and time management skills who is proactive, creative and has a good use of initiative. The individual will need to be able to work flexibly across the service as needs dictate.

Clinical:
The post holder will be confident in providing and co-ordinating direct, OT clinical care, to people with highly complex needs and clinical presentations.
They will be able to demonstrate a high degree of specialist, expert knowledge with regards to the provision of OT services for people with LD whose needs include; behaviours that challenge services, mental health and/or dual diagnosis and multiple impairment/physical health needs. There needs to be a willingness to work towards qualifications as identified by service demand, eg. Sensory processing, Positive Behaviour Support.
Professional leadership (staff):
The post holder will demonstrate an awareness and understanding of local and national drivers, continuous improvement methodology, leadership skills and partnership working to support the OT workforce to deliver effective, evidence based, innovative interventions.
They will work in partnership with Operational and Team managers to ensure effective governance and use of OT workforce / capacity to meet service need and to deliver high quality supervision and appraisals for OT staff.
Professional leadership (Strategic / service development):
Along with other clinical leads, the post hold will work with the Professional Lead for AHP to support the collective leadership and development of the LD AHP community in line with organisational goals and models of service delivery. They will demonstrate high levels of initiative and will have a proactive and organised approach that engages staff within service development activities.
This post is a pivotal role in leading and providing the OT perspective within the delivery of LD clinical pathways, service development and governance.
