An understanding of the Recovery Model approach is required, taking into account the needs of families and carer's, whilst working under the direction of senior staff and be prepared to become part of established multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

The post holder works under the overall supervision of the Home Manager, but is required to undertake the duties of the post without direct supervision. They are required to teach of other nursing and non-nursing staff allocated to their particular area. The post holder is designated as the person to take charge regularly in the absence of the Home Manager, with prior in agreement with that person, undertaking defined managerial responsibility for the home. In addition, the post holder will be expected to take a key role as lead on the clinical practice within the area, will demonstrate good leadership skills whilst ensuring robust standards of care are in place, including physical, mental health and social needs ensuring theses are implemented and evaluated.

Here at EPUT we maintain our own bank of specialist staff to ensure that we are able offer safe and effective care at all times.

All our permanent staff are automatically enrolled onto the staff bank however this does not mean you have to work any additional shifts, but the option is there for you if you wish.

Job description Job responsibilities

The post holder will be fully conversant and uphold the Nursing and Midwifery code of Professional conduct. Acting at all times in accordance with:
  • Midwifery and Nursing Council Code of Professional Practice 2015
  • Scope of Professional Practice
  • Standards for Medicines management 2008
  • Guidelines for Records and Record keeping 2015
  • Revalidation from 2016

Inform the Home Care Manager on all breaches of nursing professional conduct, as required by the Nursing and Midwifery Councils (NMC) Code of Professional Conduct.

In association with Anglia Ruskin University, University of Essex and Trust Advisory Nursing Group (T.A.N.G.), ensure the learning environment for all nurses in training is appropriate and that teaching areas comply with all N.M.C. Regulations.

Participate and take professional responsibility/accountability in care planning and ensure that accurate, timely records are maintained in line with the Trust Policy and N.M.C. Record Keeping.

Person Specification Education/Qualifications Essential
  • RMN or RGN
  • Proven experience at band 5
  • Excellent knowledge of clinical conditions and systems of good practice in modern mental health services
Knowledge Essential
  • A sound knowledge of Mental Health Act
  • Produce Personalised Care Plans in line with the Assessment and Risk Assessment.
  • Good Physical Health knowledge
Skills/Experience Essential
  • Competent in leading a shift prioritising, assessing and managing risk
  • Ability to deputise for the Home Care Manager when required
  • Provide effective appraisal and supervision at grades 2, 3, 4 and 5
  • Ability to lead a team of nurses and safely manage a nursing home on a shift to shift basis
  • Accurate, evidence based record keeping
  • Good understanding of Medication Management and the importance of accurate recording.
  • Competence to function in a nursing home environment.
