Wirral Place Based Community Service consists of two age inclusive teams covering defined areas within the Wirral Peninsular, one covering Wallasey, West and South West Wirral areas and one Birkenhead and surrounding areas.

The age inclusive team model will continue to recognise that patient's needs may change as they get older and where they require the best skills to meet their individual needs.

Birkenhead Adult Mental Health Service is are looking to recruit an experienced Occupational Therapist who is enthusiastic, self-motivated team player, who is able to support and be actively involved in the further development of integrated working practice within the service.

The post holder must have good communication skills, an ability to work in partnership with service users and carers and be able to work within a multi-disciplinary team setting. You will be expected to work within a care coordination role and manage a caseload of clients with severe and enduring mental illness.

The post holder will ideally have 1 year post registration experience in working within the Mental Health Field.

In return the post holder will receive regular supervision, the support of a motivated, multi-disciplinary team, have access to varied training and opportunities to consider initiatives within Improving Working Lives policy.

Main duties of the job

You will be an enthusiastic, adaptable and highly motivated OT with a keen interest in mental health. You will be part of an integrated multidisciplinary team and play a key role in supporting people in the community . This is an ideal role for a candidate who enjoys creative problem solving, teamwork and values person centred care. Support is provided from senior Occupational Therapy staff

You will be able to take on the challenges of managing a caseload , including care co-ordination and be committed to the 6 Cs, team working and person-centred care.

Access to transport for work purposes is essential.

All new clinical support staff will be required to have completed or working towards the Care Certificate (CWP In-house 2 day training to be completed within 6 months of start date).

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • Diploma or BSc in Occupational Therapy
  • Registration with Health Professions Council
  • Accreditation as Practice Placement Educator or working towards accreditation
  • CLAIT/ECDL or equivalent
  • Postgraduate clinical training relevant to the post
  • Leadership or management training
Knowledge Essential
  • Specialist clinical skills relevant to the role
  • Current disability equipment training or be willing to gain as appropriate for the post
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Good knowledge and awareness of current legislation and guidance pertaining to Mental Health Services and Implications for Occupational Therapy
  • Ability to work under pressure and set priorities
  • Good knowledge of effective care co-ordination and planning of treatment packages
  • Ability to manage own caseload and work as part of a team
