The role
  • Are you someone looking for a career in one of the UK's most respected mental health and learning disability trusts?
  • Would you like to be part of a dedicated team committed to making a difference to people’s lives to enjoy a better future?

Due to a current staff member taking a sabbatical we are advertising a 12 month fixed term (0.5 wte) post for a qualified Family Therapist to work alongside another Band 8A Family Therapist colleague in providing family therapy services to adults using the adult mental health services in Exeter, East and Mid Devon.

The post is situated within the Psychology and Psychological Therapies (PPT) service in Devon Partnership Trust. The service sits in Central Services relating to the Adult Mental Health Directorate. The posts will have a formal base in Exeter on the general hospital site (Royal Devon and Exeter (Wonford) Hospital) but work may need to be carried out virtually or in one of our bases in Exeter.

The post will be managed by the Professional Lead for East Devon.

Devon Partnership NHS Trust is growing as we establish ourselves us as one of the leading providers of mental health services in the country.

Working as part of Devon Partnership NHS Trust, you will make a difference to people’s lives from the moment you start.

£47,126 - £53,219 per annum pro rata (Band 8a)
About you
The post-holder will join a friendly and committed team and department with strong values based around acknowledging the social and psychological determinants of emotional distress, developing Psychologically Informed Environments and Trauma-Informed Services within the Trust. We are actively engaged in pursuing these values through engagement in the Community Services Framework and the developments within the Trust that support this.

The PPT service has a range of therapists and applied psychologists offering group, individual and family interventions in a variety of models including arts therapies, systemic family therapy, CBT, CAT, Psychodynamic and other integrative approaches, as well as a dedicated group work service offering specialised interventions relating to childhood sexual abuse and other historical trauma.

The Psychology and Psychological Therapies Service is professionally managed and offers support and close links with psychologists and psychotherapists through supervision, peer supervision, CPD events and team meetings and reflective practice groups.

There are good links with Family Therapy training providers at the University of Exeter and the University of Plymouth, as well as DClinPsy and D Coun Psych training courses in Exeter, Plymouth and Bristol. CPD is available through a number of routes. Individuals and teams can make applications for training bursaries and we have recently been able to support applicants for accrediting therapy trainings, MSc in Neuropsychology and a 2 day Devon wide training for PPT staff in Working with Racial Difference. In addition CPD can become available through local service developments (eg DBT training) and National programmes (eg HEE funded MSc in Family and Systemic Practice).
The location
Your base will be in Exeter, however under the current COVID-19 conditions this may be subject to alternative arrangements/change for example home working. Please be assured that any alternatives will be discussed fully with you and the organisation. Please ask the appointing manager if you have any questions.
