The post holder will be expected to provide clinical leadership and operationalmanagement to the Memory Service.The Memory Service provides assessment and diagnosis of suspected memoryconditions, initiation and monitoring of Cholinesterase Inhibitor treatments forAlzheimer's disease, post diagnostic information and support via in-house sessions,referral and signposting to voluntary and other statutory services. The serviceprovides a range of information and support for all people diagnosed with dementiaor mild cognitive impairment and those who support them.The Service offers specialist, multidisciplinary assessment, intervention andtreatments for older adults with complex mental health needs. This focuses onrecovery through sessions which enhance clients' ability to maintain their wellbeing,while remaining at home and in the community.

Main duties of the job

Lead the management of Memory Service, providing clinical leadership,supervision, support and consultation to nursing staff and MDT staff, in line withrelevant clinical pathways as outlined within the operational procedures.Be the main point of contact for both teams in relation to adult and childsafeguarding concerns. To be trained and act as the safeguarding lead torespond to concerns of this natureCollaborate with other colleagues and services to develop and embed the offer ofpost-diagnostic dementia support for service users and carers. E.g. MemoryInformation groups and the offer of formal Cognitive Stimulation Therapy..Provide information and clinical support to primary care and neighbourhoodcolleagues in order to help them make appropriate pathway decisions

Lead the accreditation process of The Royal College of Psychiatrists: MemoryServices National Accreditation Programme (MSNAP) for the Memory Service ona rolling programme.Lead the accreditation process of The Royal College of Psychiatrists: MemoryServices National Accreditation Programme (MSNAP) for the Memory Service ona rolling programme.Will be required to frequently deliver highly complex and distressing diagnosis toclients and carers accessing the memory service in conjunction with thesupporting consultants. Person Specification Education/Qualifications Essential
  • Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) with current registration Social Worker Qualification / OT
  • Completion of Preparation for Mentorship / Practice Teacher / Fieldwork Educator qualification or willingness to complete
  • Short Courses and experience to post graduate diploma level.
Desirable
  • Registered General Nurse / Qualification related to physical health
  • Educated to degree level or working towards.
  • Non-medical prescribing qualification
  • Formal teaching qualification.
Experience Essential
  • Substantial experience as a mental health practitioner at Band 6 or above
  • Experience of multidisciplinary working in mental health care with complex cases
  • Experience of working to objectives and meeting deadlines, within a performance management framework.
  • Experience of providing dayto-day clinical leadership and operational management
  • Experience of supervising junior staff
  • Experience of joint working with outside agencies
Desirable
  • Experience of working in community settings
  • Experience of managing budgets.
  • Experience of managing / triaging referrals
Knowledge Essential
  • Working knowledge of current mental health legislation and guidance in relation to Safeguarding and Vulnerable Adults.
  • Working knowledge of NICE guidance in the treatment of mental health problems
  • Knowledge of mental health / risk management processes
  • Be able to demonstrate an excellent understanding of clients presenting with physical and mental health co-morbidity issues
  • Overview and knowledge of the range of interventions and services that meet the needs of all service users referred to the mental health service including those with dementia, delirium, functional illnesses, selfharm and substance misuse
  • Be competent in developing and delivering training packages relating to mental health
  • Display a good understanding of clinical governance and quality improvement
