We are seeking a full time Band 6 Occupational Therapist to work as part of the Tamarind Therapy Centre.
Occupational Therapists hold a key role within the ward multidisciplinary team (MDT) providing expertise to support clients on their mental health recovery journey to discharge. This includes individual and group work, assessment, intervention and evaluation in accordance with the Royal College of Occupational Therapy Code of Ethics. The service is founded on recovery principles with a very strong evidence base, use of outcome measures and regular service involvement and partnership.
The successful applicant may have contact with patients or service users and we will therefore be seeking proof of vaccination or medical exemption during the recruitment process. Main duties of the job
At Park Royal Centre for Mental Health, we have a 20 bedded male ward, an 18 bedded female ward, an 18 bedded mixed gender ward and a Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) which is a 13 bedded ward. The post holder would primarily work on one of the acute wards however may be required to work across the wards as required. The Acute OT service in Brent is led by the Brent Head OT and consists of a Band 7 Lead OT, Band 6 OT, Band 5 OT, an activity coordinator for each ward, a sports technician, a fitness instructor and sessional staff as well as the MDT and therapy staff . We are currently developing roles for peer support workers.
We are looking for someone who has some previous adult mental health experience, skills. The successful candidates will:
- Be motivated, energetic and a flexible team player with excellent communication skills
- Be able to use initiative and have some responsibilities towards the management of daily ward programmes.
- Demonstrate an interest and participation in evidence -based practice and professional development and working with recovery principles.
- Be familiar with the MOHO and other evidence- based assessment tools in order to establish a baseline functional assessment from which recommendations can determine further on-going care and treatment to enable optimum functioning.

Specific to assessment, the OT will utilise MOHO evidence-based assessment tools in order to establish a baseline functional assessment. Recommendations can determine further ongoing care and treatment to enable optimum functioning.
As part of the Tamarind resource to facilitate sessions and interventions to support the Brent Crisis Resolution Home Treatment Team in preventing admission and supporting discharge. For example to provide access to the community based groups, 1:1 work, external agencies facilitated by the Tamarind Centre.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
- Degree (or Diploma) in Occupational Therapy
- Registration to practice in the UK
- Evidence of post registration training relevant to mental health practice and community OT
- Training in the theory and application of the Model of Human Occupation
- Practice Placement Educators Course/Development activities
- Leadership and/or management training
- Training in motivational interview techniques
- Member of the British Association of Occupational Therapy
- Member of relevant specialist section
- Significant experience of post graduate working in a range of mental health settings
- Experience of working within community mental health teams
- Has demonstrable experience of the assessment and management of risk in a community MH setting
- Experience of leading, managing and running evidence based group activities for service users with complex and diverse needs in a mental health setting
- Experience of undertaking specialist OT assessments and writing specialist occupational therapy reports
- Has experience of working as a Care Co-ordinator and demonstrable knowledge of the CPA framework
- Experience of working in an inter-professional team.
- Experience of working within a multi-agency environment.
