About the role:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Matron to join the Team. This is an exciting opportunity has arisen within the Lewisham Operational Directorate Nursing and Quality Team.

You will be responsible for assuring the highest standards of clinical care are provided to our service users in the community within Lewisham Directorate. Lewisham Directorate has recently gone through community transformation and the post holder will responsible for maintaining outstanding care across our community services.

The successful candidate will require energy and a consistent focus on Quality Improvement. You should be driven by the desire to improve the experience of all those that use our services.

Our Team:

You will be part of Nursing and Quality team in Lewisham Directorate working alongside other inpatient and community matrons, supported by Deputy Head of Nursing, Head of Nursing and our governance team. We are a motivated and supportive team who are devoted to providing outstanding patient care.

Main duties of the job

About our location:

Lewisham Nursing and Quality team is based at Ladywell Unit, Lewisham Hospital, Lewisham High Street, London, SE13 6LH

Lewisham Hospital is based in south east London, zone 3 and is close to the beautiful green open spaces of Ladywell fields park and Lewisham park. It is within walking distance to the vibrant high-street with shops and restaurants and located within walking distance from Ladywell, Hither Green, Catford and Crofton Park overland stations. The site is not located within the congestion charge zone.

Our community services are located at different sites within the Lewisham Borough. As community matron you will be required to work across our different sites.

The post holder will deliver on the Matron's 10 Key Responsibilities;Leading by example
  • Making sure patients get quality care
  • Ensuring staffing is appropriate to patient needs
  • Empowering nurses to take on a wider range of clinical service
  • Improving 'Team areas' cleanliness
  • Ensuring patients' nutritional needs are met
  • Improving wards for patients (to include supporting ward in identification of ligatures and management plan regarding existing ligatures)
  • Making sure patients are treated with respect
  • Preventing (hospital)acquired infection
  • Resolving problems for patients and their relatives by building closer relationships

To provide senior nursing leadership and responsible for overseeing the clinical care of Lewisham community services. To assure the highest standards of clinical care are provided to our service users. See attached Job description.

Person Specification Experience Essential
  • Registered mental health nurse
  • Experience at a senior management level, including managing change
  • Experience of setting, monitoring and evaluating standards of care
  • Experience of working in a multi-cultural environment and knowledge of methods to develop culturally sensitive practice
  • Current experience of relevant clinical practice
Desirable
  • Higher degree in Nursing or related fields
Knowledge Essential
  • oAble to negotiate and influence in order to achieve objectives without direct line management
  • oAbility to problem-solve, identify problems, review options and take appropriate action without a predetermined framework.
  • oAbility to negotiate and reach compromises in a manner, which inspires confidence and respect from others at all, levels both within and outside the organisation
  • oWorking knowledge of relevant legislation and policies associated with Mental Health Care including MHA, CPA Procedures and Human Rights Act
  • Understanding of risk issues including Clinical and Health and Safety
