Exciting opportunity to join Durham and Darlington Integrated Adult learning Disabilities team.
As a Specialist occupational therapist in TEWV you will manage a complex caseload independently, assessing occupational performance and delivering specialist occupational interventions, demonstrating adherence to the Trust Values at all times and operating as a leader in the team, service and organisation
Main duties of the job
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a competent, confident and enthusiastic full time Occupational Therapist to join our Integrated learning disabilities team
The successful applicant will work as part of a strong team responsible for receiving requests for occupational therapy, triaging and prioritising these, completing evidence-based assessments and interventions to address key occupational areas of self care, productivity and leisure.
They will use client-centred approaches to co-producing negotiated occupational goals and evaluate these with service users collaboratively.
They will participate in clinical/professional and management supervision
They will make valued contributions to multi-disciplinary team working
They will contribute to and lead on service improvement and quality initiatives
They will use the Trust electronic patient record system
They will abide by all Trust policies and procedures
They will be able to respond flexibly and creatively to challenges
They will be provided with High standards of training to support clinical practice .

Manages a complex/specialist OT caseload from assessment to discharge from therapy. Service users may have multiple needs with a combination of physical and mental health or learning disabilities. Service users may demonstrate behaviours that challenge or have difficult family situations of relevance.Responsible for ensuring the highest professional standards and attitudes towards the care of service users are maintained at all times and that care is delivered in accordance with evidence based practice by all staff for whom the post holder has designated responsibility.Undertakes complex occupational therapy assessments and develops complex therapy programmes.Assesses and manages risk effectively in clinical and community settings including the service users own home.Works with service users and carers to identify occupational therapy goals as part of the overall Multidisciplinary Team plan.Develops and implements specialist interventions for individuals or groups, in collaboration with the service user(s) and MDT to achieve therapeutic goals.Uses technical and creative skills to engage service users in therapeutic activities and encourages service users/carers in a compassionate manner, to support them in achieving their identified goals.Monitors and evaluates occupational therapy treatment in order to measure progress and modifies treatment plans to ensure effectiveness of clinical interventions.Provides reports and makes recommendations on service user progress at clinical meetings and participates in the clinical decision-making process regarding service user care programmes as part of the multidisciplinary team.Provides specialist clinical advice to other healthcare professionals including those in the acute hospital sector with limited mental health or learning disability experience.May provide professional advice, as requested and where appropriate, in relation to subject access requests.Provides advice, education and training to service users and carers.Undertakes health promotion activities.
Assesses service users for and fits adapted equipment in the home, as appropriate.Responsible for recognising the potential for or signs of service user harm, abuse or neglect, including poor clinical practice, reporting all such concerns and taking all reasonable steps to protect the service user. Responsible for identifying and reporting concerns regarding the safeguarding of children who may be at risk.Demonstrates safe moving and handling of service users, using equipment as required.Demonstrates safe physical interventions in the management of violence and aggression as required.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
- Registration with HCPC
- Accredited Practice Placement Educator (APPLE)
- Significant experience of delivering Occupational Therapy including experience working with service users in mental health or learning disabilities with complex needs
- Experience of participation in quality improvement activities
- National guidance and key standards in own specialist area
- Clinical Risk Assessment and Management and its application in practice
- Significant knowledge to post-graduate level of the needs and difficulties of service users in designated specialist area.
- Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
