Herefordshire Mental Health Services (provided by Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust) offer an exceptional place to live and thriving community of psychologists and psychotherapists. We are offering an exciting opportunity for an experienced and innovative psychologist to contribute to the development of assertive outreach and inpatient rehabilitation mental health services in Herefordshire. For the right applicant, we are happy to consider flexible working, including some working from home.

We place particular emphasis and invest in developing talent and expertise. We would be excited to hear about new ideas for service development as well as any research interests we can support you with. There are currently a raft of training and CPD opportunities available.

Herefordshire has been one of the national pilot sites implementing the Community Transformation Framework. As a county we have faced enormous change over the last 18 months. This has provided psychological services with an opportunity to be creative, think outside the box and work collectively toward improving psychological care both locally and at a regional level.

We have key initiatives, co-ordinating our emotion regulation and psychosis pathways within core and specialist community services, while ensuring an integrated interface with IAPT and acute services.

The main focus for this post will be the development of evidence based psychological provision for clients with psychosis, bipolar disorder, and other complex needs, including dual diagnosis. There will be an emphasis on delivering NICE recommended psychological interventions for this client group. This will include co-ordinating developments in specialist psychological assessment and formulation and actively promoting more integrated packages of care across community and inpatient settings. Helping to create and sustain more psychologically and trauma informed environments across the system of care will be an important part of the role, in collaboration with colleagues and initiatives already in progress.

This is a senior clinical post and the post holder will be key to shaping, influencing and reviewing new models of care as part of the Psychosis and Bipolar Disorder pathway in Herefordshire. This will include developing services in line with the Long Term Plan, local Community Transformation, and upcoming NICE recommendations for rehabilitation for people with SMHP. The successful applicant should be accredited in CBTp and BFI, or willing to undertake the necessary training (provided).

If you do not meet the criteria for the band 8b role we will also consider applications that meet the criteria for the band 8a role and job description (available under additional documents on NHS Jobs).

If appointed to the band 8a role this will be a development role with progression to the band 8b role upon successful completion of a preceptorship programme. It is expected that this will be achievable within a period of up to 2 years and will be dependent on the experience of the successful candidate.

In the event that the elements of the development plan are not fully achieved the role will remain as a band 8a. This will be further discussed as part of the interview process and with the preferred candidate as appropriate.

The postholder will be a welcome member of our well established and highly respected psychological service in Herefordshire. Our Countywide Psychological Service, and adult mental health specialism within it, provides a cohesive and supportive environment. ACT, CFT, EMDR, CBT, CBTp and family interventions are core to adult services. In addition, psychologists are accredited in CAT, Schema and Systemic Therapies and we offer a number of model specific supervision groups. Relationships are excellent between psychologists, our multi-disciplinary colleagues and senior management. We also have active and positive working relationships with psychology colleagues in our acute hospital services.

There are good links with local clinical training courses in Birmingham and Coventry & Warwick Universities through regular teaching and clinical placements. Training placements are also offered to trainee counselling psychologists and art psychotherapists.

Herefordshire offers excellent living and working prospects. Nearby are the Wye Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty; the Forest of Dean; the Malvern Hills; and the Brecon Beacons National Park; with easy access to the M5 and M50. Bristol, Birmingham, Cardiff and Cheltenham are all within easy reach of Herefordshire. The area also has the benefit of outstanding schools and a rich cultural life.
