We are seeking to recruit an experienced Clinical or Counselling Psychologist to work therapeutically with adults with a confirmed diagnosis of ASD (without a learning disability), where there are particular issues of complexity. This is a 12-month post but we are hoping to establish the need for a dedicated psychologist to work with this client group. You will be based within Specialist Psychological Services for adults and older adults with mental health difficulties, in modern facilities at the Whiteleaf Centre in Aylesbury and Saffron House in High Wycombe, although the team are also working remotely online.
Your role will involve providing assessments, consultations and interventions (including indirect working), based on your formulation of the presenting difficulties. Referred patients may be at risk of a living placement breaking down, or at risk of admission, or other significant difficulty. The role will involve liaison and joint working with AMHT colleagues, and other Trust staff, supporting them with patients with autism where they are struggling with engagement, formulation and progress. There will also be opportunities to provide training, supervision and consultation relating to autism awareness and necessary adjustments.
You should be a suitably qualified clinical or counselling psychologist with HCPC registration. You will have an interest and track record in working with adults with ASD and a desire to support Trust teams and services in improving the care given to patients with autism. You may also have a background in autism diagnosis. We’re happy to consider applications from people currently working at an 8a level and interested in developing their skills further.
As well as being part of the Psychological Therapies team, there will be opportunities to work closely with colleagues in the multi-disciplinary Bucks Adult Autism Diagnostic and Intervention Service. Both teams are friendly, enthusiastic, supportive and skilled. You will have regular clinical supervision and professional guidance from a Consultant Clinical Psychologist, as well as opportunities for support and learning in group supervision and team meetings. You will benefit from an active CPD programme, administrative support and over 100 psychological therapy colleagues in the Buckinghamshire Psychological Therapies Pathway.
