We currently have opportunities to join the Nursing Bank within Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (HPFT) in Hertfordshire as a Highly Specialist Arts Psychotherapist

All roles on the bank are for as and when workers and therefore in particular may suit those already working part-time, with other commitments, or who want to work on a short-term basis.

Job Summary:
  • He/she will be clinically autonomous with an agreed caseload and be responsible for providing a Highly specialist Arts Psychotherapy assessment and treatment service (group and individual), in response to the complex mental health and learning disability needs of male adult secure patients across West Hertfordshire medium and low secure units. Many of these will have high levels of emotional and psychological disturbance and will present with serious difficulties including autism/aspergers syndrome, or symptoms of psychotic illness, anxiety and depressive illnesses, personality or mood disorders suicidal and/or self-harming behaviour. They may also have experienced a history of sexual abuse or trauma through profound loss and may also present with a history of aggression or violence towards others alongside their learning and physical/sensory disabilities.
  • He/she will be required to assess service users’ suitability for their particular modality within Arts Psychotherapies.
  • He/she will liaise with other members of the wider multidisciplinary team, within all 3 units in evaluating care. Working with carers and families when appropriate.
  • He/she will provide a highly specialist resource for the unit’s multidisciplinary teams in (i) contributing with the professional lead to the philosophy and aims of the treatment (ii) developing and implementing agreed changes to the service and to local policies and procedures with consultation with the professional Lead.
  • The post holder will contribute, in liaison with the Occupational Therapy lead, Professional lead and MDT, to the development of National and Trust policies, in relation to Arts Psychotherapies within Hertfordshire secure services.
  • The post holder will be involved in the development of service development and service audits and own modality research to increase the work-base and evidence base for the Arts Psychotherapies and contribute to maintaining Best Practice in the specialist clinical area.
  • The post holder will take a leadership role regarding special projects to further the development of the Arts Psychotherapies service as discussed with the Head of Arts Psychotherapies and Occupational Therapy Lead.
  • He/she will take a delegated leadership role to represent the Arts Psychotherapies Service at meetings within the wider service when delegated by the Professional and Occupational Therapy Lead.
  • Support in the delivery of Recovery college focused Arts therapies sessions in collaboration with the unit service users
