An opportunity for a clinical or counselling psychologist to join Solent NHS Trust, a provider of high quality chronic pain management services for patients in the Southampton, South East Hampshire, Fareham & Gosport and Portsmouth CCG's. We also provide a Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/ME service and Long Covid pathway in Portsmouth, thus providing a variety of treatment pathways where future opportunities to provide psychological input may arise.

Successful applicants would join a multidisciplinary team comprising psychologists, physiotherapists, nurses, occupational therapists and doctors. This offers learning and exposure to combined treatment planning. We have a group of psychologists of all grades, up to Consultant Psychologist level, embedded within these interdisciplinary teams. We offer Pain Management Programmes and one to one treatment options. We have strong links with the MSK department and local hospital specialties.

What staff say about our service: the most supportive team I have ever worked in”, “I enjoy coming to work”, “I feel appreciated” and “our team is very connected”.

All new recruits are provided with a full induction and training to deliver group programmes using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. As a wider service we offer regular education, training and supervision. The Trust has a strong research department and we continually undertake audit and service evaluations and would be interested to develop further research opportunities. We have links with the University of Southampton Doctoral Training Programme and regularly offer undergraduate student placements to students from the University of Surrey and the University of Portsmouth. We have an active pool of ex-patients who volunteer and offer additional support within our services. Opportunities exist to assist in supporting this work and developing it.

During the Covid-19 pandemic the service have transformed to digital platforms enabling continued service delivery virtually. A proportion of face to face contacts have continued on a case by case basis enabling accessibility whilst maintaining safety. All sites have undergone strict risk assessments maintaining safer working conditions and practice in line with government guidelines. We are currently reviewing a return to offering more face to face work.
