Within this role, you will lead the occupational therapy department and provide assessment and treatment of occupational needs on a Female Medium Secure Unit, with robust supervision and support provided by the Lead/Head OT. You will also have the support of an Occupational Therapy Assistant and Activity Coordinators, who will provide therapeutic interventions and meaningful activity engagement for each patient.

We use evidence-based practice within each of our service lines, as defined by our clinical steering groups, of which Occupational Therapists play a key role.

Main duties of the job

As part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will work as an autonomous clinician, providing specialist assessment and treatment of occupational dysfunction within the Female Medium Secure Unit. You will be an active member of the Multi-Disciplinary Team and will complete assessments, interventions and outcomes to ascertain occupational performance; whilst undertaking robust risk management to maintain safety and support recovery.

You will hold supervisory responsibility for a newly qualified Occupational Therapist, an Occupational Therapy Assistant and also Activity Co-ordinators. You will also take a leadership role in specific projects; both locally and nationally within the Secure Services Service Line. An integral part of this role will be supporting student education within the team.

This role includes opportunities for learning, development and research, supported by a robust appraisal and supervision structure based on RCOTs Career Development Framework.

Service Line: Secure Services Female Medium Secure.

Summary of the site:

Cygnet Bury is a large site with 14 wards. We have a Regional/Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist and three Head Occupational Therapists to support the different services on site.

Clinical: You would be responsible for the assessment and treatment of occupational dysfunction for up to 13 patients within the Female Medium Secure Unit here at Cygnet Bury. You will work with a full multidisciplinary team in a coordinated way to support each patient to develop their skills and move through our clinical model of care from admission to discharge.

Leadership: You would report to and deputise for the Head Occupational Therapist on site as required. You would also hold leadership responsibilities for an Occupational Therapy Assistant and an Activity Co-Ordinator. You would be actively involved in service development initiatives within the Secure service line nationally within the OT Directorate within Cygnet.

Our Female Medium Secure service is therapy and recovery focused, providing assessment, treatment and rehabilitation for females who require robust risk management and support to manage their mental illness and associated risk presentation.

The aim is to effectively progress service users though the Secure Model of Care Pathway, into the least restrictive environment possible.

Under the leadership of our occupational therapy directors we support over 150 Occupational Therapists. Working together as a large team we provide support to each other across the group, with the opportunity to be part of specialist interest groups & become involved in service development.

Every service line has a clinical lead occupational therapist to lead and develop evidence based practice and agreed occupational therapy pathway.

We ensure our occupational therapists have a voice through participating in service model development, utilising the expertise and support of our clinical lead occupational therapists.
